Vanilla Sugar

I like using vanilla sugar in baked goods, but it gives a wonderful taste to puddings and ice cream, too. It adds more flavor to every recipe that requires vanilla and sugar. I even use it in my low sugar peach jam.

vanilla beans, sliced open

Place sliced beans in sugar and store as you would usually store sugar. One or two beans per quart will do fine and can be re-used when more sugar is added.

This is a great recipe. I keep two jars on hand, one with plain old white sugar and one with raw. The guests at our home love it in coffee and it is wonderful in recipes calling for vanilla.
