The view from our kitchen window is breath taking, we had a very wet snow yesterday, about 3 inches and everything is covered in white, every tree branch as far as I can see into the woods is coated– it is like the world has been given a heavy dusting of powdered sugar. It is quite cold, only in the single digits and will be remain that way for the several days. It doesn’t appear that it will be above freezing for the next week. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Hubby was able to put out his larger bird feeder this morning and already the birds are flocking to the feeder. I also had a large jar of spanish peanuts that have been in the pantry for much too long, the furry critters are enjoying them. It is fun to watch them from my kitchen window.

The backyard feeder has been very busy of late with the Winter/Spring like weather we are having, so many birds and on the feeder and one of my favorite is a beautiful red headed woodpecker–he really stands out with his brilliant red hood–several cardinals have been feeding the last week or so.

It has been rainy and cloudy and a bit chilly, in the 60’s. This morning I went to make my coffee and opened up the front curtain to a mama and daddy ducks in my front yard. Mama was nibbling and rolling around in my chives, which are about six inches tall now, while dad stood watch. I’m hoping they stick around to nest!

Last week end I decided to mow “just a small area to cut up some twigs” and ended up mowing for about 3 hours. This morning when I looked out of the windows I was so glad I did, the grass has really greened up due to the recent rains. We received 1 inch last night. The trees in the orchard are beginning to bloom and a Redbud tree that I planted for my Hubby several years ago is showing a pretty purple hue, now if we don’t get any sudden freezes, it will be beautiful.

It is cloudy and cool (almost cold) and a slight breeze. We are supposed to have thunderstorms late tonight. Hubby is trying to gear up to mow our front lawn but hasn’t gotten there yet. We have a anywhere from 1 to 4 inches in the area this past week. Of course there is flooding in all the suspect areas. But everything has greened up.

This morning while doing the breakfast dishes I looked out of the window and got a very pleasant surprise, a beautiful deer down in the orchard, the first one I have seen this year. The trees are full of small fruit and a lot is on the ground due to the winds we have had lately.

We have a beautiful yellow bird visiting us, it sits in a little hanging planter on the porch and pecks at the soil in the pot, it looks like a finch but is smaller, I don’t know what it is, but it is beautiful and fun to watch.

This morning I saw 3 beautiful deer in our little orchard eating apples, a buck, a doe and a fawn. I watched them for this longest time, the buck would stand on his hind legs to reach the apples from some of the lower branches, the doe while eating apples kept a close eye on her little one and when it ventured away she would run and shoo him back to the trees. What a nice way to start the day, such a nice change from all of the bad news on TV.

Looking out of our kitchen window, there is snow as far as the eye can see. Back in the fall when I was pulling out flowers, a begonia fell out of the trash bag and about a week later I found it. It looked alive so I put it into some soil and then placed it in our plant window in the kitchen along with my pineapple plant and a lonely geranium. I had to take them out of the window and give them a place on the kitchen counter until the weather warms again, the begonia is going nicely, she has 2 pretty pink blooms, so nice to see in the weather.

Night has fallen and so have the temperatures. But between the neighbors security patio light and our LED outdoor lights there is enough light that a plane could land without too much difficulty. I think some of the plants that were supposed to be gone long before now have finally decided that it is time to call it a day. I mean I had a petunia in a hanging basket and even after a freeze earlier that thing was still green but I doubt that it still is after this cold spell.
I have been going to the mall and walking since before Christmas except for Christmas (mall closed) and yesterday and the day before just couldn’t make myself get out in the cold. Did go today and will have to miss tomorrow (hate it) as hubby has an appt.

I am a very early riser and this morning when I opened the blinds it was barley light and very overcast but I could see 3 deer in the orchard, it appeared to be a doe with her young, such a beautiful way to start the day, it has been well over a year since we have seen them in the orchard. Due to the winds we have had lately several apples are on the ground, and I am always happy to see that because I know that increases the chances they may pay us a visit.

Since we are expecting the tree man soon, I had to find a new place to hang to humming bird feeder. Many years ago I inherited a iron stand that looked sort of like a bird cage holder. I have been using it on the covered back porch to hold a hanging plant, I removed the plant and replaced it with the feeder—perfect! I don’t know why I have not done this sooner, I can place to stand right in front of the kitchen window and watch those little beauties as they feed. I could watch for hours.

I can see much more out of kitchen window than we could a couple days ago. The tree man was here yesterday and took out 5 trees, 3 of them quite large. I hate to cut down trees when they are still alive but these we starting to threat the house and with a severe wind thy could break and do some major damage, I felt so bad for the crew because of the weather, it was so very hot and humid as is the case today, we suggested they wait a week but they wanted to do the work. We have a large covered back porch with a fan, and we set out 2 more fans on tables along with a cooler full of cold drinks, I felt to sorry for them to do such hard work on a day like it was, today will be the same type of oppressive weather and then it is supposed to cool day and rain—looking forward to that!

We have seen more deer down in our little orchard the last two years. Early in the morning we can see a whole family and doe, a buck and 2 young ones. The corn field close to us is now producing corn for them to dine on and then they come to the orchard to have the fruit that falls from the trees. They are so beautiful and I love watching them.

this morning for my kitchen window I can see the wind blowing quite a bit in a few snowflakes on the horizon we are forecast to get a bit of snow not too much but enough to make it look like winter. We really haven’t had that much snow at all this year so I really would like to see some snow on the ground before spring gets here.
