Hi

I recently found your site and I love it here.  I’m Amy from North Carolina and I’ve started making liquid soap all because of this amazing site.  I was wondering if anyone has tried making their own coconut oil and/or butter?  If so have you used it in any of your soaps?  I’m interested in maybe trying this, but thought I’d ask if anyone had any experience with it.

Thanks!!

Thanks so much for this link. I was wondering if you’ve used it in your soaps.  I looked through the replies and didn’t see it mentioned.  Do you have to adjust your water if you use homemade coconut butter?

If you can get the fresh coconuts that’s the way to do it, I had been doing the oil for years. I learned in Indonesia, I lived in that country for 5 yrs. But here in the States is very difficult to find good coconuts. I try to make coconut oil once as one of my friends want to learn how to do it. But we use it 6 coconuts and obtain just like half of 1/4 cup, normally in Indonesia with 6 coconuts I obtained 1 liter of pure virgin coconut oil. It’s easy to make, but the thing is….can you get good coconuts? the ones with a lot of flesh, the very old ones with a least 1 inch thick white flesh.

When I lived overseas (Indonesia, Qatar & Oman) I prepared my own coconut oil and use it to prepare my own soap.

Here I buy my extra virgin coconut oil in Costco at a very good price.

Thanks so much for this. I appreciate your getting back with me.  I can’t get access to coconuts, much less good ones.  That is too bad.  I really was thinking this would be fun.  Just out of curiosity, is it hard to learn?
