Miss Judy  I was just at the grocery store (Kroger) and saw  a booklet titled Gifts in a Jar.

Over on “Anyone baking today?” STH posted a link that I couldn’t get to work (not surprising for me) but while on the  same site, I saw this http://www.ourbestbites.com/2009/11/no-knead-multigrain-bread-in-a-jar/.

Actually, STH, your link worked but when it came up, the site said the page could not be found. But as I was navigating back here I saw a recipe in the recipe index that was titled District 11 bread. I bookmarked the site so will go back and check that out later.

But this “bread in a jar” recipe sounded great for something different. My husband and I were just talking about something to give his co-workers for Christmas. He’s a teacher and that makes for a lot of teacher gifts. Thanks, STH!

Progress might have been all right once, but it has gone on too long.  Ogden Nash

Grabbed a little booklet called “Holiday Gifts from a Jar” at the Dollar General.  Looks like all recipes, but some look VERY promising.  The booklet cost 4.99, so there had BETTER be some great ideas in there!

Pete, I grabbed that same booklet here.  Had some ideas that I may try but I think if you have a master mix type books/recipes you can probably do the same thing IMO.

I thought I was onto something.  They have a website but I just checked it out and didn’t see anything downloadable just where you could order cookbooks.

What does look promising in that booklet, and may make it worthwhile for many folks, is the code for a free app (normally 9.95) to a bunch of recipes.

And, there are a couple of recipes in it that I will definitely try – like the spiced shortbread recipe.  It is basically the same as my regular recipe, but with the added spices.  Sounds nice for the holiday season.

It also occurs that many of these recipes could be set up as premixed kits for home use.  Sometimes I just don’t like to have to bother with getting out the flour and sugar and baking soda and, and, and.

All I can tell you, Miss Judy, is that I am glad I got it.  Had I looked a little closer, I probably would have put it back so am glad I really just grabbed it.  It’s rather novel having the ingredients lists set up the way they are.  And there is a hang tag for each recipe that can be duplicated if you make multiples of the recipe and actually give it in a jar.

Hi lavenderblue!  I just saw your post–I’m sorry the link didn’t work.  I just tried to link it again in the baking thread and it still isn’t working.  Sounds like you found it anyway.  (And there’s a lot of good stuff on that site; I’ve had really good results with their recipes.)
