Hello!

Could anyone tell me what the vinegar bath after dyeing does?  Does it set color?  I also wonder if it conditions the dyed fleece and make it softer.  When I have washed fleece (in Dawn, the dishwater soap), it feels stiff when it dries.  I have some wonderful blue faced leicester, and when I washed a bit, the locks felt stiffer than before.  I just read the blog entry on dyeing and it calls for a little vinegar in the rinse water….

And dyeing in the grease.  i’d like to hear from anyone who’s done this.  Also, I’m getting a triple picker and wondering if I will harm the picker if run clean but lanolin rich locks through it….

I have read that acid dyes or vinegar, which are used to color protein fibers such as wool and nylon, require a mildly acidic pH to form a permanent bond to the fiber.
