Been looking around trying to find something to do with the billions of dandelions around each year.  Ran into this today: http://5orangepotatoes.blogspot.com/2009/04/dandelion-syrup.html

Not sure how to translate this into a recipe because you really need to see the pics!

Found some dandelion cookies, too linked from that same site.  We don't bake cookies very often, but may have to just so we can say that we did!

Just not something I can imagine doing. People eat some weird stuff. Ok, I, armadillo breath, will shut up now.

Dandelion flower tea can help relieve pain from headaches, menstrual cramps, backaches, stomachaches and depression.

The greens (leaves) are high in vitamins and great in salads. You can also make dandelion fritters with the flowers by dipping them in batter and frying.

Surely you could knock a couple down if they were fried!

That is so cool!  I don't have dandelions (I have lots of other weeds…), but I have lots of roses, and that would be fun to try.  Thanks for the link

My great-grandmother lived on a 260 acre farm in Jackson County.  My mother moved to CA, and my grandmother & grandfather followed her there to be close to their grandchildren (my brother, sister, and me).  My grandmother would fly to WV each year and spend at least a month with her mother on the farm.  The winter I was six year's old my grandmother finally talked my great-grandmother into going to CA to spend the winter, out of the cold and snow.  My great-grandmother missed her farm soooo much.  One morning I found her in the back yard picking dandelions, but that wasn't the strange part.  She took them into the kitchen, washed the dirt off, and COOKED THEM!  I thought she'd lost her mind, cooking and eating weeds.  My grandmother explained that the young shoots were good cooked.  They were the only things my great-grandmother could find growing fresh that reminded her of home.

I can remember picking dandelion blossoms for my grandpa to use to make wine.
