I’m excited that my garden experiment has been successful. I planted romaine and buttercrisp lettuces between my tomato plants, thinking that as the tomato plants grow they will shade the lettuce from the hot afternoon sun and stretch out their growing season. It worked! I have beautiful heads of lettuce and they are not bolting, in spite of the fact that we’ve had weeks of over 80 degree weather. This is companion planting that I’ll do again next spring.

That’s good to know! I didn’t plant any this year because I thought it was too late.
