Tamales are a custom in this area and during the holidays.  I like to make my own so I can control the content but I love making them.  They are not hard to make just labor intensive….Just wondering if anyone else here makes tamales.  The Mexican people usually make it a family occasion and everyone pitches in and helps…It's a lovely and  very festive occasion…

Ruth, I've missed you!!!

I love tamales!!!  I have never made them, but John's BIL's family (sisters and mother) get together and make tons of them every year!!  I just put my order in for them!!!  They tell me it's not hard, but when I see a room full of ladies and ingredients all over…….I see chaos!!  Laugh  I'm much better not in the middle of all of that!!!

Tamale making is one of those things I've never done, but lots of family and friends do it every year.  We managed to still be on the recieiving end of many home made tamales during the Christmas season, until our last friends who made tamales moved to Houston a few years ago.  I sure do miss them, but not enough to actually try doing them by myself!  Without a group working together, it just doesn't sound right.

I love tamales but have never made them myself.  I can't think of anyone I know that makes them homemade…a shame!  I have always been scared spitless to even try to make them.  I have been told they are not hard to make just takes a lot of time.

I need to try and make them.  Do you make a nice sauce to go over them?

Thanks for missing me.  The cruise was nice but not the best one we went on.  We did enjoy ourselves but the weather was really nasty and then it just takes me forever to recuperate from anything as strenous as a trip.  The chemo really did a number on me and I am slow to rejunevate…of course age might have something to do with it too.

Well I do mine in a period of two days.  I cook the meat and cool and shred it etc and then on day two, I make the masa and put them together.  I have it down pat and frankly I think I would have trouble having a lot of help.  I love making them and eating them.  Last year I made beef, pork and one of my favorite, bean and jalepeno.  I make lots of them and put them in the freezer.  Here is a dish of some that I was rolling and a picture of the first batch into the steamer.

Hmmmm.  Maybe I need to rethink that doing it by myself thing!  They are sooooo good.

Yes, we need sauce recipes!!  The chili gravy would probably be pretty good on them, though…

Ha!  Something new to learn!!  It looks like we might have someone that can help us along!!!  Breaking it up into sections would probably make it doable.  Yes

I'm planning to make tamales and put it on the blog sometime soon!  A good January project.  I still have corn husks.

Clover made me do it.

I'm looking forward to reading about your tamales making.  Are you going to have your kids help you.  It's a good way to learn.  My kids all love to eat them.  One Christmas eve (a traditional time for eating tamales) most of the kids were at home and of course hungry so I gave them a huge plate of tamales and they just sat at the table eating tamales and piling the husks in the center of the table.  When they finished they had a big mound of husks.  We all love them.  I've never made pumpkin but they are very popular in this area.  I hope you enjoy making them…Have you made them before….

I've never had tamales, but they look soooo good! This would be a good have-the-friends-over type project for a cold february day. We can all learn something new together! Looking forward to a tamale blog Suzanne! :)
