Twenty three days ago, I came home from work at normal time to find everything fine.  I changed clothes, and left for the grocery store.  We came home right at dark, put up groceries and went outside to shut up the chickens.  I found eleven out of twelve chickens laying dead in the lot.  This happened in the three hours that I was gone.  I strongly suspect a fisher.  I found where the murderer had pulled the chicken wire lose and went under the fence.  I think it was a fisher because I saw one the next day run out from the log pile when my husband started up the dozer.  The lone survivor was a little black hen that happened to be setting on eggs in the chicken house.  I imediately took every egg I could and put them in the incubator.  My little black hen hatched out fifteen babies two weeks ago and I got eight out of the incubator Friday night.  I have reinforced the lot, I dug a trench and buried forty eight inch woven wire about a foot deep.  I am also going to put a strand or two of electric fence up as well.  With fall coming, the critters are moving in.  I put up a game camera and have seen a fox, a raccoon cats and the neighbor’s dog.  My recomendation is to fortify your coup and take as many precautions as you can. I hope this doesn’t happen to any of you.

Last weekend I lost 2 hens I believe it  was  a weasel.  We put chicken fencing down at the bottom of the fenced in yard  about 2 feet away and put rocks on top.  This creature dug under it and in and the one warm night I did not close the coop door. I am going to line the inside of the run with chicken wire and put sand on top, so no one can dig under and get in.  I have gone 3 summers leaving the coop door open to keep them cool and now this.  I was just heart sicken. One I lost was one of my originals I raised 3 years ago she was laying dead she was my golden lace wyandotte the other was one I just raised and she was a runt she was a black Australourp .  I just told her the other day that she was so beautiful with her pretty shiny feathers. She had her head and neck gone.
