When the grass is knee deep and green and the cows and their calves are clean from a recent rain and the sun is shining there is no prettier sight on earth. Nice healthy calf and a good mama cow.

How wonderful and what a superb looking little boy. Ross is so right about about the prettiest sight. I love to see them as well. There are so many pretty babies at them moment how lucky we are that you are all sharing them with us. Thank you xx

Here’s a video I took of a calf right after it was born: Click HERE. to see it.

I love the coloring your cows have. What breed are you raising?

If there was any logic in this world, it would be men who ride side-saddle, not women.

They’re called Black Angus.  They are a beef breed developed in Scotland in the 1800s. They’re tough and hardy, but also aggressive and defensive which is good for their calves, but not for the humans that work around them. grrr

Thank you so much for sharing this! We have black angus too, but I have honestly never caught one in labor. I always seem to walk outside and the babies just magically appear! They are so darn cute!

You’re welcome!  With 60+ head and frequent checking, we’re bound to catch some of them in the act. But since the part of labor where they lay down and push the calf out is only a few minutes, it’s hard to actually be there as the calf comes out.
