Here’s arrival #3 for the Tawney Farm.  Please welcome Persephone, born on the 1st day of Spring (3/20).  Her mother is a Suffolk/Merino cross and her father is Argo, our main Merino ram.  Looks like she took after her father, all except for the black eyeliner!!!  Six more mamas to go!

Hubby had to pull a calf over the weekend that had a leg back. I took a video of the birth, and I tried to post it here, but couldn’t figure out how to.

So you can see the video HERE.

That was definitely intense.  I found myself contorting in empathy!  Then holding my breath until that adorable calf started to breathe. Can’t wait to check back to see the result!

I don’t live on a farm but I do have a new baby, a five-month old kitten named Charlie.  Our beloved Honey was put to rest a week ago and the house seemed so empty without a pet.  We went to our local animal shelter and it was love at first sight.  Charlie is a bundle of energy, as cute as a button and has brought us so much joy this past week.  We’ll always miss Honey but Charlie has definitely warmed our hearts.  (I tried to post a picture but was not able to so I guess I must be as dumb as a rock!)

I’m so glad to hear you saved a life by going to the animal shelter.  There are so many good animals there and cats don’t get a long time there.  Kudos to you and I hope you have many years with Charlie!

Here are the newest arrivals on our farm, they were born 3/23 and 3/26. They are both fillies (girls). We are thinking maybe Ruby for the bay on the right and Sprite for the palomino on the left. Both mares and babies are doing great! We had such crappy weather yesterday that we had to bring them inside for the night.

Just precious, chelst … thanks for sharing.

A twin born last night, one billy and a little girl, everything went well, this morning they did good, we are taking of now for 2 weeks and our boys will look after the farm.

When I come back we will bring home a Dexter cow, bred and due in May/June, she might stay there though till the calf is born, just to minimize the stress and danger of slipping and or tripping in the trailer.

But I can’t wait…having a cow again..

Love looking at all the babies!

Here’s our latest. One of our heifers (first time mama) had her calf yesterday. He’s a cutie and doing fine, but she’s a nervous Mama, kinda overprotective, but that’s ok. She’s a good mama.

Okay, this is pretty tame compared to cows and such.

We just had our very first baby chicks hatch at Downeast Thunder Farm. Our banty hen, Shadow, is the proud mama of these two amazing babies.

My daughter in her excitement said, “It’s like we’re mommies!” Of course I am a mommy…
