Hi. My name is Valerie. I am 48, married 26 years (27 end of January), 2 children and I have found myself stuck in a cube farm. I used to do a little gardening, canning (before it was “in vogue”) and handcrafts. I stumbled onto this site searching for recipes (cook only from scratch) and it stirred up this dream to have a small farm and step off this hamster wheel I’ve been running in the past 15 years. I’m hoping the dairy farmer up the street from me will allow me to do an apprenticeship so I can get over my fear of larger animals moo I don’t know how much time I will be able to put in on this site, but maybe this will be my new facebook.

Welcome, Valerie! You will love it here, everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Remember, if it rains on your picnic it's also raining on your garden!

Welcome Valerie, time here is often so informative that it seems well-spent.  Hmm, dairy farmer up the street? Wisconsin perhaps. . . Holsteins? Brown Swiss? Both are nice, gentle large animals; generally sweet dispositions.

Save the Earth. It's the only planet with chocolate.

Hi my name is Kathy (most call me Kat) I’m a mother of 3…1 girl,2 boys all grown up.. grandma of 3, great grandma of 1. Recently remarried… but actually have been together 14 yrs this month. I don’t live on a farm but do live in the country on about 35 acres. And love animals of all kinds.. If I were rich there would never be a homeless hungry critter.

I absolutely love living in the country…I was raised a military brat so we didn’t live anywhere long enough to own a house let alone farm.. they say that kind of life (moving so much) does one of two things to people…either they cant be happy grounded or they cant be happy moving around the rest of their lives…I fall into the later…I don’t ever see me moving again ever, unless of corse it because I’ve won the lottery or come into a wonderful windfall.

I love gardening, canning, preserving … I cook mostly from scratch, my new fascination is mastering the making of bread, other dough’s. I’m a pretty good cook but for some reason never really took the time on bread making.

I think you are a brave woman taking on this way of life, I can imagine that it is very fulfilling in many ways and I wish you much success. Looking forward to keeping up with this forum.snuggle
