All of those sticks look like good kindling to me, pile em up for next winter!

  2. Box Call says:

52, that is why we (men) are on this Earth…to come to the distress of damsels. Ain’t farmin great? How John Denver ever came up with the words “Life on the Farm is kind of laid back” amazes me.But it is true “Ain’t much an old country boy like me can’t hack.” Life is good in the country.

  3. CindyP says:

    That looks like wonderful kindling!

And my yard looks the same! But I have a grandson that thinks it playing to go pick up all the sticks and put into a big pile for Nana….and pick all the dandelions….and move all the rocks to look for worms. πŸ™‚

  4. Leah says:

You might as well add make new scarecrow to the list. otherwise it’s gonna freak you out every time you go back there.

  5. Sandra says:

Seems to be a lot of like-minded people on this site…the minute I saw those twigs and small sticks…I’m thinking “kindling”…or maybe we just grew up with wood stoves for heat.

  6. MMHONEY says:

just looking at your list makes me tired.
    where is my chair???????

  7. Karen Anne says:

All those sticks, if piled together, make a nice brushpile for shelter for animals also.

  8. Miss Becky says:

oh my, that’s a lot of work. Boomer doesn’t look up to helping much

  9. Nancy in Iowa says:

I’m with Leah: add that scarecrow to the list! He’s creepy!

I’m really good at making lists and have all kinds. But I still don’t know how to make assignments disappear from the lists – am I supposed to do something?

  10. Helen says:

Bleh…don’t remind me, because it looks like what is waiting for me in my yard and garden, too.

  11. IowaCowgirl says:

Could you come to Iowa when you are finished in W.Va.? I have a few things on my list……….

  12. KLabmom says:

This is what we are doing this weekend here in Oregon as well!! It was such a mild winter and now it has been raining buckets, just when we all want to get outside and WORK! Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

  13. Barbee' says:

Ugh, the poor scarecrow’s insides are coming out! Is Boomer actually yawning?! A lot of help he will be; I think he has spring-fever. Maybe he needs a tonic. Might add that to your list. πŸ˜†

  14. Shelly says:

I feel for you. I have a really small garden and it is still too much work, everything needs to be tended to… That scarecrow needs a nice head and hat to Jazz it up! I was just thinking how much better homegrown tomatoes are then store bought ones this summer and a big juicy watermelon will be sooo good on a hot summer day. It will be worth all the work. I have read that May is the busiest month to take care of a garden! I am sure 52 would be glad to help you with your yard. πŸ˜†

  15. Susan at Charm of the Carolines says:

Art in progress is still beautiful! Love your farm!

  16. Kathleen H in Indiana says:

I have the same lists and mess. (no cow to milk though) We have our tomato plants in, and have lettuce, spinach and radishes up and ready. But all other spots have to be cleaned up, raked, limed and veggies planted etc etc. I have spent a week planting flower gardens. I bought over 200 plants online (bare root bulbs and small plants) they came and I had no choice except plant them. Hoping it will be worth it. Love this time of the year, everything is a fresh start. I even love making lists, much more than actually doing the tasks. :shimmy:

  17. Gayle says:

I got to the add lime part and decided it was time for a margarita and kept waiting……..waiting………..where is the tequila? the salt?……the sombrero?…….sounds like time for a siesta to me!

  18. Jo says:

Oh my. :bugeyed: We picked up our yard full of sticks and made a brush pile with it for the critters. Helps stop the snow in winter time too.

I was always kind of wishing I had a milk cow but just reading your blog has convinced me that I do not have the time nor the energy to have one! Thanks, Suzanne! πŸ˜†

  19. whaledancer says:

Mr Scarecrow looks way too tired to help. Come to think of it, he looks like I feel today.

  20. Linda says:

I’m sure we will have lots of that stuff to do soon, too.
    Good luck!

  21. Runningtrails says:

Lots to do here this spring too! Spring is a busy time for farmers!

  22. Shirley Corwin says:

I (dumbly) made a big burn pile too close to my one bluebird house. Now I have a mama blue bird sitting on her eggs in there and I can’t burn it. Mr scarecrow’s knees are buckling!!! He needs a little help! (And a head!)

  23. kerri says:

Suzanne, here I am reading your blog instead of working on my huge to-do list! Loads of interesting stuff :happyflower: If you could corral the 3 teenagers they could have that picking-up-sticks thing done in no time! Good luck with that πŸ˜‰
You sure have been a busy girl. Love the new Farmbell Recipe Blog. Well done! It’s going to be such a fun place!
And yes, isn’t the green wonderful…and the spring flowers!
I love that picture of Boomer :snuggle:

  24. nikki crump says:

Just curious, as I have an enormous first-year garden that fights an around-the-clock invasion of grass…is the lime laid down to prevent grass growth? Also, how do you mark your rows? I’m having a heck of a time identifying what has come up vs NOT (mostly due to grass-combat). Any info would be much appreciated! πŸ™‚

  25. robin says:

:dancingmonster: anyupdates on the garden and how it coming along?

  26. Patsy Melton says:

I’ve been working on the same things all this week. I want a scarecrow, but haven’t made time to ‘create’ the man. Wish I had a ’52’ to help me out….
