Final council circle at 4-H camp!

They all held candles at the end and sang songs. They said how-how a lot the rest of the time. I’m not sure what that was about…… Camp is weird.

Okay, for a PAX mug, what two things did I really do while they were at camp?

1. Really did pick daisies. No, I left the wildflowers where they were.
2. Tried out a new recipe. Yes! I did this! I’ll do a post about it next week cuz it was really good!
3. Hiked to the top of a mountain. YES! I really did!! (See the pics below!)
4. Fell in a creek. No. Ewww. That would have been icky!
5. Slept late. Nope, too busy hiking up mountains!!

Seneca Rocks, West Virginia! Are these rocks cool or what? Rising nearly 900 feet above the North Fork River in the Monongahela National Forest in Eastern West Virginia, they’re formed of white/gray Tuscarora quartzite approximately 250 feet thick on exposed crags that were the edges of an ancient ocean. You can hike to the top–takes over an hour–and when you get there, there’s a sign that says STOP, don’t go any further unless you want to DIE you FOOL! So I went a little further just to be ornery.

So I was sitting here at the top, looking over, when I took this picture. It made me dizzy! But, wow, it was cool. I made a list of people I wished were there so I could accidentally push them off. JUST KIDDING!!! Shockingly, it was so much easier to hike down than up……

Legend has it that an Indian princess named Snow Bird tested seven suitors for her hand by making them follow her to the top of the rocks. The one that made it became her husband, but only after he almost fell off the top and she had to rescue him. I like this girl power story!

Now for the winner of the PAX mug, selected randomly from entrants who made the correct two choices…….

I know you are glad to have your kiddies back from camp. I’m always glad to send mine off, but gladder still when they return. Absence does make the heart grow fonder…

Cool pictures! And cool story about the Indian princess!

Oh, and I could think of a few people to shove off the mountain, too…

    WTG, Generic.

Awesome place, Suzanne. Love the pictures and the story about the place. I’m not even sure I took pictures when I went up my mountain. I don’t think it was this much of a peak so I’m glad I didn’t get dizzy enough to fall off.

Good for you. Great way to spend some time alone, as long as you’re careful.

    Congrats, Generic!

Those are beautiful pictures. I would have loved to climb that mountiain with you! When I was visiting my daughter in Portland, I climbed part way up Mt. Hood. Of course, it was a gravel path and it wasn’t very hard to do! lol

Those mountains are spectacular! 😯 What a wonderful hike, Suz. I would have done it as well. It feels good to be bad, eh? Love the legend. 😀

Oh, and one more thing…:hissyfit: 😆
