It Never Ends

I feel like a one-woman Cat Rescue Spay-Neuter Society. There are so many wild cats around here, living in the barns, under the porch, everywhere. We’ve rescued a lot of them, taken their kittens in, gotten the mothers spayed, the kittens spayed or neutered or given away.

But they just keep coming.

Here are two of the wild barncats at the food bowl on my porch. This is about as close as I can get to them.

14 spends a lot of time doing this, laying out in front of the porch attempting to coax the wild kittens to let him pet them.

Here’s a little gray one, peeking out from under the porch. Cute, huh? I actually got hold of this one once and it bit me…..

Now 14 comes out wearing gloves when he tries to get it. I asked him what he thought we were going to do with it if he caught it. He said, “Take it inside and make it a pet!”

Oh, blessings to you, Suzanne, for doing this–especially the spay/neuter. My cats have all been shelter adoptees, one of my co-workers is currently fostering a mum and her 7 kittens, and a friend is fostering 2 litters–plus has 3 of her own cats, for a total of 13 in the house at the moment.

My Annie is so hostile toward other cats that I just can’t see being able to foster with her around. I love her dearly, but she does NOT have a pleasant purrsonality. My little guy, Nicki, is usually bullied by her and I’m thinking I need another young one (he’s 10 months) to keep him company. ๐Ÿ™‚

So good luck with all your strays and rescues! If people would have consideration and respect for their fur companions and get them altered, we wouldn’t have such a problem with overpopulation.

Yep. That would’ve been me at 14. :purr:

  3. Alice Audrey says:

The vet should offer you a discount. Seriously, you must be his best customer. Good for you.

  4. Michelle Willingham says:

Wow, that’s a lot of cats! I definitely hope the vet gives you a discount. :purr:

  5. Susan says:

What’s the problem with one more pet in the house? ๐Ÿ˜†

You are doing a great thing by having them spayed or neutered.

  6. Ellen says:

Aw…cute kitties, even though they’re feral. And how nice that 14 tries to befriend them. I always figure you can gage what kind of adults kids will be by watching how they treat animals.

When feral kitties come begging for food here, we also get them spayed or neutered. Only one of them is still afraid to come in the house, but she will sleep in the garage in the winter. Unfortunately, the neighbors don’t subscribe to our philosophy and their cats’ many litters keep raining down on us.

I think your doing a great thing trying to care for the cats. As for 14, that was me also at that age and younger. I still am ( with a gangle of cats myself). :purr: Hope everyone has a good day today.

  8. Tori Lennox says:

You’re a good person for taking care of them, Suzanne. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Fannie M Wiggins says:

Hi every one. I live in a mobile home. With some health problems I’ve had, pets are not on my list of things to have. I admire any one who will do all you do for strays and unwanted animals. I agree that the vet should be giving you a discount. I can see him taking nice vacations with what you are paying him. ๐Ÿ˜† Have a great day and hugs  to all.

  10. Brandy says:

You are a wonderful person to feed and then spay/neutor them. And 14 seems to be following in your footsteps. You should be so proud.

  11. Shelli Stevens says:

Wow! That’s a lot of cats. You are a sweet lady to take some in. I can’t even imagine! :cattail:

I love your smilies! I want them!

Unfortunately it takes lots of patience and months and even years to convince ferals to trust you unless you get them as kittens. I have had 3 outside females that I had fixed for over ten years and I can pet them and feed them when I bend down at the door but when I walk outside forget it lol. I’ve just taken in my 7th lol.
