National Eat Pie for Breakfast Day

Shoo-Fly Pie.

I know some people call the day after Thanksgiving Black Friday, but that’s not what it’s really called. It’s National Eat Pie for Breakfast Day.

You can have it for lunch and dinner, too, if you want.

I tried this but my kids turned down the pie, and wanted scrambled eggs instead! Who’s kids are they? I ate the pie for them. That’s my duty as a mother! :moo:

  2. wvhomecanner says:

no, no, no – its stay home and eat a hot turkey sandwich with stuffing and gravy for breakfast. Oh that’s right, that was MY house 😉

  5. Miss Judy says:

I had eggs, hash browns, bacon THEN I had chocolate/bourbon/pecan pie. I am thankful we were plentiful on dessert yesterday because that ment leftover pie. Also thankful my son left behind the remains of this pie! So glad my son can bake!

  6. Rhonda says:

I am a long time member of your club. Mmmmmm pie.

  7. lizzie says:

So much more fun to eat pie! :snoopy:

  8. Miss Becky says:

What timing. I just downed my first piece of pie for the day as my breakfast. It was sitting right there on the counter, no prep, no baking needed. And it was yummy. :eating:

  9. texwisgirl says:

I took a spoonful off the stove to sample – with an actual slice w/ ice cream to be eaten after lunch. I’m all for pie anytime anyday anywhere!!!

  10. Karen Templeton says:

Yep. Just had pumpkin. With extra whipped cream for dairy. Most excellent breakfast. :happyfeet:

  11. IowaCowgirl says:

Yes, we are also charter members of this organization, although the first breakfast pie was consumed at 2am by a ravenous family member (husband). Then poor college daughter consumed blackberry pie at 9am, followed by starving high-schooler chomping down apple pie at 9:30am. Gramps will no doubt have pumpkin pie when he emerges from a cold winter’s nap (he can sleep as long as he wants; after all he is 98). I, the maker of all pies, will try to abstain and begin the 12# loss regimen for December…..

  12. Lynda Swink says:

    Recipe for that pie? PLEASE!

    Thanks!
    Lynda

  13. prayingpup says:

Oh my! That pie in the picture sure looks good! I didn’t know it was pie day . . . . I MUST fulfill my duty and have some pie!!!!

  14. Catalina says:

We didn’t know it was Eat Pie For Breakfast Day, but we ate pie for breakfast anyway! We needed energy after fighting shopping crowds AND standing in line for over 2 hours.

  15. whaledancer says:

You betcha. But here ’bouts it’s pumpkin.

It’s also turkey niblets day: those are the little bites of leftover turkey you nibble all day.

  16. Pete says:

The Day was appropriately celebrated here… 😉

  17. Minna says:

Now I HAVE to make a pie! Isn’t there a National Chocolate Day, too?

  18. 4jsMOM says:

Oh, I hope it is OK to have pumpkin roll for breakfast and lunch. Anyway, that’s what I’ve had today. No pie, just cake. It’s only 2 p.m. so I’ll have time for more before the day is over.

  19. Ulrike says:

Darn it! I missed out. I had cheerios for breakfast. (But I did eat a slice and a half of cherry pie for lunch.)

  20. Lori Skoog says:

Of course it is…here at Skoog Farm…anyway.

  21. Nancy in Iowa says:

Suzanne, you might need to stress that it’s a light cooking molasses for the novices!!! I made my one and only Shoo-Fly pie from a recipe in a Pennsylvania Dutch community cookbook that my Mom gave me. I was 28 but really hadn’t experimented much with cooking or baking. It was a special treat for my daughter’s Christening and I was serving it to her godparents. Back in 1970, at least, Black Strap Molasses was on the shelf in the grocery store. I bought it. I used it. The pie was completely inedible!!!

  22. Linda May says:

I had Key Lime with my Cheerio’s this AM……!!!
    Enjoy

  23. LisaAJB says:

I love pie for breakfast day!

  24. Cheryl LeMay says:

I am sooo glad to hear I’m not the only one that does that. I always feel piggish when I do it. Now I can hold my head up again.Thank you Nancy in Iowa for pointing out about not using the blackstrap molasses in the shoofly pie. I would have grabbed that and used that too.

  25. Darlene in North Ga says:

I’ve done my duty and forced myself to eat pumpkin pie. With CoolWhip.

  26. susan says:

:chicken: and i thought we were the only family that ate pie for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving. Pie day sure beats “black friday” shopping.

  27. The Retired One says:

    a perfect solution!!! LOVE IT!!!

  28. Ramona says:

Pie for 3 meals sounds okay with me.
