Retreat Update

It was just a month ago that we opened registration for the CITR Retreat 2011 and we are already more than two-thirds full. We are going to have so much fun, and I’m so excited to be doing this. We were taken by surprise by the huge interest in cheesemaking and soapmaking classes, so in order to not close any classes and still keep class sizes small, we’ve brought in an additional teacher. LauraP is an experienced Jill-of-all-crafts and a long time cheesemaker and soapmaker. (I should be taking classes from her!) We’re also moving forward with opening sponsorship opportunities for those interested in contributing, either in donations or in items, for swag (goodie bags) for attendees, door prizes, and donations toward class supplies. If you’re interested in being a sponsor, check out our new information page for sponsors here.

I’m also working on plans for this year’s Party on the Farm, which follows on the heels of the retreat. The CITR Party on the Farm 2011 is set for Sunday, September 4, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. In past years we’ve had cheesemaking and soapmaking demonstrations at the party, but since we’ll be doing those at the retreat, we have some fun, new things on the list for this year’s party, including demonstrations in spinning wool and grinding grain. You can, of course, always milk Beulah Petunia, too! (See the whole list of party demos set for this year plus pictures from past party events here.)

If you’re thinking about coming to the retreat and haven’t signed up yet, don’t wait! Space is limited and we can’t add more spots. Once they’re filled, they’re filled. You can see all the details about the classes we’re offering and sign up here.

A Hands-On Experience in the West Virginia Mountains, September 2nd & 3rd at Camp Sheppard, located in Roane County, West Virginia.

2011 Party on the Farm follows on September 4th at Stringtown Rising Farm.

Bring a cookie for Clover! OR SHE’LL BE MAD!!!!
