I Have a Dream

We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all animals are created equal. I have a dream that one day on farms across America crooked little hens and dirty little dogs will be able to peck together at the feeding trough of brotherhood……

Suzanne, You are hilarious! I’ve heard your readers say numerous times that you should write children’s books but I’m also thinking that if you don’t get the SAM-e blogging job, you should immediately start doing seminars and workshops on “the importance of family meals” and/or “team building in the workplace” because, you’re a born leader in those areas as well.

I bet if either one of them knew you were looking they would have chased the other one off. Animals are so funny! Our dog will chase the cat when the other dogs are around, but in the evenings when the dog is in with us he quietly lets us know the cat is outside at the door waiting to get fed. The dog goes out with us to feed the cat and they rub on each other like best buddies.

Sweet Harmony!! Dookie doesn’t realize that his chicken friend actually “tastes” like chicken! :chicken:

Hope the dog food isn’t chicken flavor!! :bugeyed: If it was, would the chicken get “mad chicken disease”? :?

WOW!!! At first I thought that was a large and colorful guinne….gennie….big hamster standing on your porch but now I see more clearly and realize it’s one of the farm dogs. Boomer? Dookie? (who named that poor pooch?)
I voted, as I have every morning, and this time I left a comment for the Sam-e people. I do so want you to get this job because I know what it would mean for your family but the best part of this whole process is that it has let your readers express how they feel about you, Suzanne. You are a keeper!

That’s so cute….I miss my chickens coming up on the porch with the dogs and eating and drinking with them. Our little Shih Tzu Chelsea got caught going after one of my favorite chickens the other day when we came home from shopping. The poor girl who is a beautiful Buff Orpington lost her tail featers and some feathers on her back and had a cut on her neck. For just a split second I was wondering if dog tastes as good as chicken! :hungry2:

Poor Dookie! He used to be a sleek, city dog. :happypuppy: Then he moved to country and he thought it wasn’t too bad. :bugeyed: He had lots of people to interact with and he thought he was living the good life of semi-retirement. Then (gasp) he moved to a farm! :sheepjump: :moo: Oh, the indignity! He must share his bowl with “fowl” interlopers. :chicken: :hissyfit: His manicure and styling was lacking its usual metrosexual flair! But, he realized that all that healthy country air and exercise was maintaing his boyish figure. The new porch offered a great view of the “little people” (AKA – barnyard inhabitants) who were beneath him (literally and figuratively). :pinkpig: And his staff (AKA – humans) still loved him, mud and all. :snoopy: THE END. (Don’t you just love happy endings?)

My Lab tolerates a lot… but another creature eating out of his bowl is definately NOT one of them!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
