Continuing my holiday gift prep, I made sage and chamomile scented candles today. I’m on a candle binge. I’ll be making soaps in matching scents next.
It has rained and rained today, and there is already a flood warning for tomorrow. The teenagers want to declare a high water day for tomorrow so they can sleep in. They don’t like that we all have to get up and find out if it’s a high water day with a delayed opening. They’d rather just sleep through it. I never heard of high water days till I moved here. High water days are when the creeks and river are so flooded, kids can’t get to school. Usually it’s just a two-hour delay while the water goes down. Sometimes it’s a whole day off. Sometimes everybody else can get to school except us because we have to ford a river in one direction or drive through three creeks in the other.
We’ll see what tomorrow brings. In any case, I think I’ll make more candles!

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

That’s quite a storm headed your way. I just looked at the forecast for your area: heavy rain tonight followed by snow tomorrow. But just think, if they declare a high water day the kids will be home to take care of many of those outdoor chores (feeding the livestock, chipping ice off the waterbowls, etc.) while you make candles. Won’t that be nice?
So they couldn’t sleep in, anyway, right?

What a friend to the kids. I’m SURE they love your logic. Now, if MOM buys it, they’re in business. lol
And hey, I thought there was a coop that needed cleaning out?

I never thought I’d want to try making candles, but after seeing yours I might have to.

Can you give us a little more detail on what the essentials would be to make these candles? Do you also get your scents from Wellington?

I used to get my candlemaking stuff at Michael’s but I don’t anymore. You can get much better stuff from soap and candlemaking suppliers. I’ve bought online from Wellington Fragrance–wax and scents and other stuff for soap, too–and am happy with them! wellingtonfragrance.com
