Suzanne, I feel for ya! I finally got out of Gay this afternoon. I am not sure if this would work for you, but I have Verizon Wireless and we get cell towers at the trailer and I hook my blackberry up to my laptop and use their internet! It’s great! Of course, you will still need to power the batteries on the laptop and blackberry! Unlike you, I don’t have a river or creeks to cross, but I have a series of large and in charge mountainous hills to go down once I am on the ridge. Thank God for neighbors! I think that they should make City folk wait for power restoration and get to the country folk first! You guys have it way bad! I learned that first hand! Keep warm!

Just think–some folks pay a lot of money to spend time such as this in the the snowy mountains to relax by the fire and the enjoy the fragrance from the candle light–now if we could just find those folks and get them uo to the farm—-just sayin!

Thinking of you and praying that power will be restored soon. Hope you’re managing to get through the deep snow to do the chores without too much difficulty, and that the generator is working well.
We have light snow falling this morning (which is beautiful!), but other than that storm seems to have bypassed us here in upstate NY.

its cold here in florida too. not much sun in the sunshine state! i am with you in spirit, i know what it is like not having power. when we had our bad hurricaines a few years back, we went without power for 15 days. cold showers, standing in hour long lines just to get ice everyday for our coolers. there was one pizza place open 27 miles away, we have three sons and two of them were in high school so i would buy eight pizzas a day.after it was all over, i didnt eat pizza for almost a year. you have taught me how to make things from scratch so if that ever happens again, i, along with my generators will be o.k. stay warm

There are bear hunts going on in three counties of eastern Kentucky for the first time in 100 years. I hope that doesn’t chase them out your way. Lots of hungry animals out there besides teenagers. 😉 I bet those beans tasted wonderful after working and doing chores in the snow.

We are snowed in here in the mountains of Virginia, but fortunately did’t lose power. There is just no getting down the driveway.
You have such a dedicated staff.
Stoke up the woodstove, find a comfy seat, a nice warm cup of something good (you know, with rum or brandy in it), Kitten and Little curled up on your lap, and a good book to read. Doesn’t get any better than that!

By now you’ve probably found that being without electricity isn’t so bad when you’re as well prepared as you are! Our biggest issue is water and your early storm reminded me that we don’t have any 5 gallon buckets filled up and stored yet and I should get more gallon jugs of water to store too. We have the wood stove and oil lamps and plenty of lamp oil and all the food preserved from the garden plus meat in the freezer. We also keep a single burner propane camp stove for quick coffee with our Melita one cup filter system.
The hard thing is withdrawal from the internet! :bugeyed: But after a few hours I settle down in front of a window to read.

Last we heard, Suzanne’s got the generator running at least part time so the well pump will run, and plenty of wood piled on the porch, and plenty of foil. I too hope she’s tucked up on the couch with a hot toddy and a good book, or maybe a board game with the kids, or some knitting, or other crafting. Oh, let’s not forget a nice pot of soup or such warming on the wood stove (though I believe she’s got a gas range in her kitchen).
I must say I hope she snaps lots of pictures too! We’ll all have a lot of catching up to do after this!
