Coco the Pest

Once upon a time there was a pesky puppy. She was a Giant Puppy, only she didn’t know that. She thought she was just a puppy. A livestock guardian puppy, but just a puppy. She loved to play with the goats she was sworn to protect with her life. She loved to be with them all the time. She loved to bite their bottoms and lick them, too. She loved everything about them!

Clover, the mother goat, loved the Giant Puppy right back, but sometimes the Giant Puppy was….a bit much.

“Will you play with me, Clover?” the Giant Puppy asked.

“No,” Clover said. “I do not want to play with you, Giant Puppy. I need to nurse my babies. Go away.”

“Will you play with me?” the Giant Puppy asked Honey the buckling.

“No,” Honey said. “I do not want to play with you, Giant Puppy. I need to practice being king of the world. Go away.”

“Will you play with me?” the Giant Puppy asked Nutmeg the doeling.

“No,” Nutmeg said. “I do not want to play with you, Giant Puppy. I need to learn how to munch grass. Go away.”

The Giant Puppy went back to Clover to plead her case.

Clover sent out a memo.

To: The Management
From: Clover
Subject: GIANT PUPPY

I hereby withdraw my request for round-the-clock protection. Until my babies are out of my nursery, I will require the Giant Puppy’s services only between the hours of 9 pm and 7 am. During the rest of the time, the Giant Puppy shall not enter the confines of my quarters or I will not even consider negotiations with Management regarding the touching of my udder.

I think she meant that.

And so….. Out the Giant Puppy went. She could spend the night curled up inside the dog house with her goats, but she couldn’t follow them all day and lick them and bite their bottoms and drape herself over them.

“Cloverrrrrrrr………..”

“I’ll give you all my Snausages……….”

“I need to play with you, Cloverrrrrrr…….”

“I love you, man.”

Coco’s eagerness to do a job…poor thing. Thrown off the porch, jealous of Dookie, pecked by chickens…

Awwww Coco! I feel your pain in those last few pictures. Perhaps you can get a few mud baths in(us folks in the city call them “spa treatments”) during your banished hours!
Love to Coco from your number #1 fan!

    Cheryl

Poor Coco – he just needs a buddy to play with – ALL THE TIME!!! Look on the bright side Coco – now you can lounge out on the porch all day, high above everyone else, take walks in the woods, sip at the water bowl, eat with the family, get petted by guests – cant be all that bad.

see you should write a childrens book about your stringtown rising farm

Bless her fuzzy little heart.

  15. Dru says:

poor Coco. She just wants to play.

  16. Cathy says:

You seriously could make some awesome children’s’ books out of some of these posts- modern day Margaret Wise Brown… My grandkids love the little chicken picture story you posted earlier this year. You have an amazing talent and wonderful sense of humor and ability to capture that in your photos. “Good Dog Carl” move over for Coco!!!!

  17. Traci Best says:

Oh poor baby! Coco just wants to do a good job! (And play too.) What a bummer! 😕

  18. Suzette says:

Cathy – I was just about to comment as to how this would be part of a great children’s book! It’s such a charming story about the puppy growing up and learning its role in the world. Suzanne…you gotta do it!

I need a giant puppy. I will play with you Coco. You can sleep with the goats at night or you can sleep in my bed.

You are too cute. Doesn’t Clover see that?

  22. annie says:

All due respect to The. Giant. Puppy., imagine how Clover feels walking around with 4 gallons of milk between her legs, two sets of teeth trying to get at those four gallons. It’s a wonder she doesn’t want out of the pen, to go up on the porch and have HER belly rubbed.

  23. sunnid755 says:

awww, I love it, and coco and the goats. Why are Honey’s ears blue?

  24. Tori Lennox says:

Awww, poor Coco!!!! Clover’s being such a meanie!

  25. Suzanne McMinn says:

That’s Nutmeg with the kinda greenish-blue ink on her ears. It will wear off over time. It’s from when she was tattooed inside her ear. (For identification and registration purposes as she will be a breeding doe.)

  26. Pam says:

I love those goats. I want one. Butt since I can’t have one I will watch yours. I want to show my granddaughters you pics of goats and read the funny captians to them. They will love it. Have you thought about a childers story book?

  27. Donna says:

LOL LOL LOL That Coco..ohhhhh, who could resist that little face looking through the fence!!!!! Hugs for Coco!!!! Just come on over to my house and I’ll hug and love on you all day and get nothing done. Just love on Coco! hahaha!

  29. Cyndi B says:

How cute is this post!! Coco, we love you man!!!

  30. Gail says:

Hmmm! A familiar story…it’s time Coco has a working partner close in age to help burn off the puppy energy! What’s better than one Pyr pup? Two Pyr pups! Double the protection for the goats and farm! I am in full agreement
with the other posters that you need to write childrens’ books as well as the story of Stringtown Farm Rising. Keep the pictures coming!

  31. Estella says:

    Kove the pics! Poor Coco.

  32. Estella says:

That should be love the pics!

  33. Tresha says:

    totally LOVE Clover’s memo!!!!

ok, milking…I totally conquered it with my right hand…my left hand ….ummmm…no so much!!!! and my hands were so tired I swear I barely had a 1/4 of a cup in my bowl before I let my youngest nephew take over!!! Do you have a milking table??? platform with feeding box and tall stick to tie goat onto it…so handy AND so much easier on the back…my oldest nephew made it out of scrap wood. Plus, she said something about after straining the milk, put it in a GLASS jar and set it down inside ice water…has something to do with taste and preserving it….????…. did anyone mention anything like this to you??? she says the ice water and glass jar are seriously the secret to good milk (if you are planning on drinking it…it is completely lactose free milk!)she has raised goats for 30 years…[email protected] if you want more details.

seriously not trying to be a know it all in Oklahoma~

  41. Darlene says:

This is just tooo funny! I’ll be laughing all night over this one. Poor Coco, he just wants to have some fun!!

  42. Patty says:

I love this one! The pics and captions are so funny. I showed the page to a friend of mine, and now he wants a Giant Puppy! The others are right, a farm book for kids with photos like these would be fabulous. A whole series of them! I’d get them even if I didn’t have kids! Your site is one of the bright parts of my day. Thanks!

  43. Kathy says:

Poor Coco, she can’t help it that the goats “taste” sooo good!
Coco could come to live at our house but our “puppy” would want to taste her too–and not in a good way. Our puppy is very spoiled. He doesn’t let any other furry beasties come between him and his mama! Maybe it’s because I home cook all of his food?
Please give Coco her “playthings” back!

  44. catslady says:

You really do have to do those children’s books – your stories and pics are better than a lot of them out there. Poor confused coco.

  45. Crystal B. says:

    What great pics. 🙂
