Some Hens Just Don’t Try Hard Enough

See that little brown egg in the middle? And I don’t even have any banty hens right now. Though sometimes when they’re just starting to lay, they lay smaller eggs, so maybe that’s one of my newer hens. See those big white eggs? Those are duck eggs. I love duck eggs!

We didn’t have a farm, but I used to have a duck (an Easter gift for the children) that would lay an egg on the porch every day. The egg would be right in front of the door. When anyone came, I had to pick the egg up before asking them in. I used the eggs for baking.

I had a little egg the other day too..Was wondering why it was so small.I have a question to any one who can help. I have five hens. I am about to purchase more. And was wondering what chickens lay the most/best eggs?lol Thanks!! Love your colorful assortment Suzanne!!

Good morning. I have ten hens who are beginning to lay nice large eggs. At first they were small but gradually got bigger. I’ve had them since May of last year. They have been laying throughout the winter which surprised me as I thought they would stop because of the shorter days. My “girls” give me nice fresh eggs everyday and I’m glad I decided to raise chickens.

I am sorry to have to tell you this, but I do not like the new format of your blog. It is too hard to navigate. Doris

    I am, alas, with Doris.

I tried to comment on this on a previous post, but my system crashed, and I don’t think my comment got through.

I really like the former “newest post first” form, and it is also an easy way to see if I missed the next to newest post. Here I wait for pictures to slowly cycle through and I read the dates on them and think did I read this, yes, wait some more. And if it looks like a new post, I don’t know if I missed another post without waiting for all of them to go by.

I am not sure even at the moment if I am reading the newest post here. I suspect it is not but rather a caption for the photo.

I like ‘change’ Suzanne and we’ll get used to it. If it helps make things easier for you so you can add more features it’s worth it! :hungry2:

My hens just started laying last month and their eggs are getting to be good size now.

I think the new layout will be great when it’s all implemented. I added the feed to my google reader so I won’t miss anything just in case but I think the new posts buttons you are planning to add to the main page will make a lot of people happy :). I’m just looking forward to more than one post per day! :woof:

We’ll get used to this change…no big deal.

I would so love to find someone selling fresh yard eggs! I miss having fresh eggs everyday.
Mama would use duck eggs all the time for things. She also used her turkey eggs…pheasant eggs…and even peacock eggs! Of course when she would use her quail eggs it would take a bucket full to make breakfast for a family of six…LOL

 One of my friends won’t even make cream puffs unless she can use duck eggs! Thinks they are THE BEST!

My Dad lives right next door to me; he has 14 hens and one rooster. He gets 8 to 12 eggs a day during the winter and 12 to 14 during the nicer months. Every Friday he comes for morning coffee and leaves us one to two dozen fresh, brown farm eggs.

Doris and Karen Anne, maybe this will make it easy for you to find the latest posts. What I do, so far, is go to the side-bar which is on the right hand side. I have to “scroll” to the right to see it. (There is a blue bar at the bottom of my page that will slide. I slide it to the right as far as it will go.) One of those photos is “Country Living”. That will be the newest in that category. Click on it for the latest post there. The other categories have photos there, too, showing the latest post in those categories. Maybe that will help until all the changes have been made and we are back on smooth sailing.

Wow, I am all out of eggs right now and craving egg salad. Whats a girl to do. I know I can always look at your pictures! I’ll have to settle for a BLT. Yes that’s the next best thing. 😮 :help:

OMG! As if cream puffs were easy to make (I don’t know, never made them, are they?)! I have a duck and duck eggs. Now I’m going to have to explore cream puffs!

But first, tomorrow is Fat Tuesday which means paczki here. Mmmm!

I’m here to tell you, Suzanne, the chicken that laid that itsy-bitsy egg should be ashamed of herself. I just bet that she has been hanging around with the new rooster. She’s a wanton hussy….smoking cigarettes behind the goat barn, sneaking beer from the hoof trimmer, staying up until all hours of the night, and getting up late. She hears you coming to collect the eggs and hurries to lay an egg. Any ole’ egg is okay in her book….even that teeny-tiny one in the picture.

Thank you for working so hard on your blog…..and all for us. I look forward to reading it every day. It puts a smile on my day.

These eggs remind me of the saying, “A friend is someone who thinks your a good egg even though you’re slightly cracked.”
