You Should Smell It!

Fresh hay straight from the field! The chickens couldn’t wait to inspect it for bugs.

Nothing better than the smell of fresh hay.

  2. Nancy in Iowa says:

I swear I could smell it coming from my computer – a memory at least 55 years old from visiting cousins on a Pennsylvania farm!

  3. Teresa from Lancaster, PA says:

I just drove past a freshly mowed field yesterday and paused to inhale the wonderful smell. It brings back memories of my grandparents on their farm many years ago. I’m still amazed at how smells can take us back to another place and time. 🙂

brings back many memories of helping to put hay up when i was younger :clover:

  5. Carol says:

Brings back memories of the haymow on my grandparents’ farm.

  6. Carol Langille says:

When I was a kid, I lived on a cousin’s big farm in Missouri…about every two years he would cut and bale a field of sweet clover just to put up in the main barn loft so it would smell great. And it did!! I can still remember playing in that loft on a rainy day and smelling the clover, the rain, the dust of the loft and the fragrance of the cattle from down below. Amazing memories of that!

The fluffy butts look very happy with the fresh bales!

  7. Mary says:

Aaaaah, I can smell it from here. My friend, Darlene, was an only child, and I used to go and help her when haying time rolled around. What warm sweet memories…especially of sleeping in the hay mows afterwards.

  8. Deb says:

I brings back memories of aching body – last week!

40 somethings are not suppose to stack hay, at least not this 47 year old who sits in an office 8 hrs a day, but …..

    Nothing smells better I

  9. Deb Martin-Webster says:

Nothing smells quite like the wonderful smell of new mowed hay! I love watching it dry in the sunny fields turning brilliant shades of gold!!

  10. Denise says:

It’s always good to have the inspectors nearby. Mine are so good at their job(s) and it looks like yours are too. That stack should keep them busy for a long long time.

  11. Yankee Gal says:

Just love those chickens! Never a missed opportunity when it comes to some tasty bugs. It’s close to mowing time up here too. Looking forward to driving by the fields on a hot summer day and breathing in the wonderful scent of fresh mown hay. Poor hay fever sufferers; what they’re missing!

  12. lifeisgood/ Melinda says:

There is nothing quite like the smell of freshly baled hay! They don’t do that much around here anymore as everyone has grown old, sold their acerage to make way for rural subdivisions and just generally faded out of the hay business. When I was a child every other property could be seen out baling hay this time of year. I admit as a teen I cared more about the good looking shirtless guys throwing the bales on the trailor than I did the smell!
    Thanks for the memory!

  13. Su says:

That brought back memories! My grandparents lived in Vermont; farms in every direction, and the smell of freshly cut hay or clover brings me right back!

  14. Sue says:

Suzanne — Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of heaven with all of us. I grew up on a farm but haven’t lived on one for a very long time. Here lately, I’ve been missing that. I’m simply drinking this in like cool water on a hot day!!

  15. blueberrylu says:

One piece of the trinity of what I think is the best smell on earth (well, beside vanilla and cinnamon rolls). You cannot beat the combo of sweet hay, leather and a horse that you love!!!!!!

  16. I Wanna Farm says:

It seems like I CAN smell it! I love the smell of fresh cut fields, but I only get to smell them when I’m driving in the country.
