I am so totally sure that Play-Doh is named after Plato……… Hey, she did learn SOMETHING in school, right? She knew the name…. sort of…..
SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER!! Play-Doh and Sno-Cones and badminton and creek walking and porch swinging and, of course, reading (well, me, not them, the kids are VEGETATING THEIR BRAINS). What are you doing this summer? I’ve got kittens tiptoeing through the potted herb garden and in and out of the house, thanks to the ripped screen in the cellar porch door, and I’m enjoying every second of it. How about you? You guys have such long holidays. The kids in Canada, I think all of it, go to school until June 30. Sometimes if that comes just after a weekend, they might get off on the 26th or 27th. Summer holidays in Germany were always strange at the time I was there, the 70s. They were only 6 weeks long and they’d rotate depending on the Land (province/state) you lived in. Bavaria is the only one that didn’t play along. You could be starting holidays as soon as late June or as late as the midddle of August. With the European continent being so crowded, everyone wanted to have a safe journey and somewhere to go to when they had holidays. Paris is virtually deserted except for tourists and those in the tourist trade in August. A lot of companies just close down, as do the big companies like VW in Germany.
It’s an especially fun time in Germany when you switch from having your holidays late, as in returning say at the end of Sept. to having them early as at the end of June. You have to cram 10.5 months of learning into 9. That is great fun I can tell you: a big challenge for both teachers and students.
Well, my holidays are no different from any other time of the year. I’m hoping that if one of my sister’s kids goes away for a short holiday instead of working the whole summer, they’ll have some room for a few days for me on their farm. Maybe then I can take some more pictures and we can compare yours to theirs. Have to find my digital camera first though, unless it’s my nephew who’s going away for a bit. My niece always keeps her camera handy. After all she’s just graduating or graduated from her photojournalism courses at college.
My one nephew is getting married in Nov. and he and his girlfriend, who was also along at our family reunion in the Dom. Rep., will go to a similar place on the Mexican Riviera to do the deed. But at $1500 per person, I doubt that I’ll be going unless I win the lottery really big. Since I don’t play, well, let’s just say the chances are slim to none. I doubt anybody will pick up my tab for it this time. For those who can’t go, they’ll be having a reception in the Niagara region after they come back. That’s where they’ll be living.

I remember being glad that I didn’t have to worry about tests, homework, or getting them off to school on time. OTOH there went my peace and quiet. Not to mention the “can you drive me here?”, or worse “can I use the car?” :wall:

Cute pic…I used to love playing with Play-doh. I had the girl whose hair grew and you could cut her Play-doh hair. I also had the Burger King and cake decorating Play-doh sets. What is she making?

Not doing too much this summer except going to New Brunswick for two weeks at the end of July…where we will vegetate at the in-laws’ summer camp (cottage). A little swimming (very little..there’s leeches in the lake), a little cross border shopping in Calais Maine..maybe more than a little of that and just visiting the in-laws.

Nothing much this summer. Going to a wedding July 1st; my best friend who I haven’t seen in 4 yrs is coming up middle/end of next month for 2 days. Gotta get some writing done…reading…hang out in the garden. Fun stuff 😎
Like Ruby said, we get to go to school right up to June 30th, I remember going in and picking up my report card on the 30th and cleaning out desks. Real fun :loser:

Today we are off to Yosemite for the day! Then it’s final prep for VBS which starts on the 19th and I am directing. In July it’s the Jelly Belly factory and a trip to Monterey.
But mostly it’s going to be lazing around, cleaning out closets and toys which seem to be bursting at the seams.
Oh and for the benefit of our beautiful children it’s Disney, Universal Studios, Marine World and the San Diego Zoo come August. They are most excited that we are going to celebrate my birthday at Goofy’s Kitchen with a cake and goody bags courtesy of the Mad Hatter.:hyper:

Our daughter has discovered the Magic Tree House series! We got her a couple and she was hooked. A couple days ago her best friend was over, and our daughter told her how wonderful they were. Her friend said she better not turn into a bookworm. I began to rush into the room, defending reading and promoting equal rights for all bookworms. Our daughter said “a mind is a terrible thing to waste”. Wonder where she heard that?
Her dad now plans to get her the whole series, research guides, and the author’s Merlin series as well.
Guess I’ll be reading them too, so we can share the joy of reading.:bananadance:

School is still going since there was a teachers strike here but it will be nice when they are done. I am looking forward to some sailing and some time on the beach.

My kids are 19 and 22 and I sooo miss summers when everyone slept in and we played games and colored and read – especially the few years they went to the Y pool and while they swam I got tons of reading in. In August my oldest graduates from PSU so we have that to look forward to. Otherwise, yardwork and the like.
