Random photos taken on our farm the other day when I was out walking.
I like to get right down in there in fairyland.
I have no idea what this pile of boards once was. Lots of stuff like that on an old property that was once a farm before it was abandoned. (And then became a farm again!)
Our old abandoned derrick:
This area just below the derrick is always wet from all the springs in the hill. We could easily dig another pond here.
This rooster was right on my heels the entire time. He was convinced I had something in my pocket! Only I didn’t, so it was all very disappointing for him.
Look at that face! He was nearly desperate. I need to go find him and give him a cookie….

He loves his mum and wouldn’t let her walk alone. Plus us humans need to be supervised. He has real bonny yellow feet.

Really nice photos, Suzanne. And please give that boy a treat. That kind of loyalty should be rewarded.

The old derrick, looks like a perfect place to mount a wind fan for generating some electricity.

Great spring pics, Suzanne! That board pile looks to me like…a snake hiding place! Be careful if you go moving the boards.
Love the toadstools.

I love the look of those weathered boards that used to be a shed?? or whatever. You really should salvage those is they don’t have big holes in them. Even pieces would make interesting bird houses and other stuff. Folks around here are always on the lookout for weathered wood from old barns for projects.
Are there any other abandoned derricks in your area from when Stringtown was a boom town? I think the story of that region is great. You should consider a cookbook with your recipes, your pictures, the history of your area. I was traveling recently and gift shops and bookstores are always looking for regional cookbooks that combine history, family stories and down-home recipes. I have them from Texas, Maine, Missouri, upstate NY, Mississippi River, New Orleans, etc. Lots of folks collect them. The derrick and historical pictures of Stringtown would be great in such a cook book. I REALLY want a Chickens in the Road cookbook!
