We went back to Ohio yesterday and I brought my cow home. I HAVE A COW. She looks like a dinosaur next to the other animals! Or a dragon! There’s a dragon in my meadow!!!! Or maybe it was just a long day and I’m hallucinating…..

Our day went like this:

And this:

And this:

(Baby cow, making a break for it in Ohio. I’m glad we’re not the only people who can’t control our animals.)

And this–Morgan, baking me a burnt sugar cake. Or something.

You just can’t get good help anymore. (Notice she’s wearing an APRON.)

I’ll be back with more more more COW details tomorrow–it was a very long day yesterday and then there was all that birthday-ing when we got home (and got everybody back behind fences). THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your birthday wishes. I love you guys. You make my day!!!

I have to go milk my dragon now…..

  10. Sheila Z says:

I can just hear them all now singing…

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
    Don’t fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
    Don’t fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin’ breeze,
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
    Don’t fence me in……………..

  11. Sheila Z says:

I just looked at the pictures again. The grass does look greener on the other side of the fence. Is there enough pasture? Can you rotate it and give it time to grow back?

  12. Lori Skoog says:

This beautiful cow is going to bring a lot to your life. Can’t wait to see all the things you will be making from her milk. A belated Happy Birthday. Can you put your feet up for JUST a minute?

  13. lady under the oaks says:

wanted to wish you a happy birthday on your birthday…but alas a day long fastpitch softball tournament lasted way longer than expected…so on the first day of your next year  a heartfelt wish for a wonderful year on the farm with :cowsleep: and :chicken and family and special friends.

  14. Barbee' says:

Just imagine how huge she must look to Boomer. Cute picture of the two together. I’m wondering: Do cows eat cookies?!

  15. Angela P says:

:cowsleep: How cool, your very own COW! After seeing your post about the new addition, I had to have a cow too. Sadly we just dont have enough land for them. I was told you should really have 2! Ill keep with the goats. Im so happy for you, what a wonderful B-day present! Way to go 52, you rock! :shimmy:
Another name I thought would be nice for your cow…Aunt Clara! From Bewitched, isnt that a cute name for a cow? Then you could run with it..Uncle Arthur…Samantha, Darrin…..
Birthdays are the most blessed celebration and should always be celebrated! Happy Birthday Suzanne, I am sooo glad you are here :airkiss:

  16. Melissa at The Highlandview Pantry says:

Cows are big! I desperately want my own milk cow. My husband has let me know if I get one it will be all me. But, I am secretly intimidated by the size of the animal. I will overcome this bovine phobia for fresh milk and cheese. BTW your cow is adorable. :moo:

  17. Beth C says:

    that beautiful creature isn’t a DRAGON – dragon sounds…scary! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Happy birthday, again  Can’t wait to hear about the day!

  22. Tovah says:

Happy Birthday! Your dragon is beautiful! I can’t wait to hear what stories she’ll give you–she is quite a bit larger than your other animals!:)

  23. Mary says:

I guess “Beulah” does sort of look like the star of the movie in “Pete’s Dragon”..if you squint your eyes just so. She’s lovely.

  24. CherShots says:

:cowsleep: I love your dragon cow ~ sure wish I had one! And as far as your birthday goes ~ I bet you thought I forgot … Truth be known I just didn’t want to get lost in the crowd so HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! “hugs”

  25. Jenny says:

I have to admit I find cows a bit intimidating. That’s just one more reason we chose goats for our dairy needs–much easier to handle, but even our biggest goat can still drag me around when I try to catch her. There’s so much you could do with 2 gallons of milk a day, though!
    ~Jenny~

  26. claudia w says:

Oh what an exhausting but happy day! YOU HAVE A COW!!!
I cannot wait to watch the adventures of you and your knew “baby”.

  27. Ulrike says:

The sequel to the current box office blockbuster: How to Milk Your Dragon! It’ll make millions. You’ll finally be able to hire a staff. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  28. Miss Becky says:

a perfect photo! Little Boomer’s awe is awesome!

  29. catslady says:

I didn’t get a chance to say – HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SUZANNE!!!

  30. Barbee' says:

Ulrike, that is funny! Maybe Suzanne should name the cow something like Milk-Dragon. (Ha! rhymes with milk wagon.)

  31. Darla Poulsen says:

enjoy your Dragon milk ๐Ÿ˜† and a belated happy birthday :happyflower:

  32. Cate says:

I think your little lambs are telling you the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Your cow is gorgeous! And big!

  33. jean says:

It looks like she’s been raiding the liquor cabinet.

  34. Melinda in Washington State says:

Actually the Jersey breed of cattle are of small size. A large cow would be a holstein.

  35. Grandmatotwochicks says:

Oh Suzanne, Miss Cow looks so lady like, and what pretty eyes she has! I think she is looking at Boomer like he is a peasant, and she is the princess!!!!!!! Our Minnie Weenie Dog Sandita, always has that look, they know when they are the queen’s. :fairy:

  36. Lori Pyne says:

    Happy Belated B’day!!

    Lori

  37. Barbara Shipper says:

:sheepjump: Happy :cowsleep: Belatted :chicken: Birthday! :sheep:

  39. Kylie says:

:sheep: Wishing you a very happy birthday all the way from New Zealand :sheep:

I recently stumbled upon your blog & I enjoy it so much.

  40. lavenderblue says:

Been away from the blog. Did I miss the official Naming of the Cow? Is it Beulah? Can’t wait for the recipes and good things to come from her.

I would probably pick goats because of the size, too, if I had to chose but have heard it’s very, very hard to get butter and whipped cream from goats milk. And you’ve got to have homemade butter and whipped cream if you are going to all the trouble of keeping dairy animals.
