Duck: Thank you Lord, for filling the pool. We’ll overlook the chicken pooo and mud…just to get wet. This is such a cute story and awsome animal pics. Good job.

I am new to your site. I find myself looking forward to see what’s new everyday. I have a cat question for you, if you have time. I too have just finished a new home and it won’t be long before I move my six furry children. How long did you keep them in the pantry? I’ve had anywhere between 10 days and six months suggested for not letting them out. I enjoy your pictures very much. Thanks.

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

I kept the cats inside for several weeks, I can’t remember exactly how long now. I did have several of them get lost once I let them out. If you look under the cat section on my Barn page, you’ll see the story of Finding Sugar, who was lost the longest. I don’t think they would have gotten lost, though, except for some dog issues that were going on at the time. It’s hard to move cats, so I feel your pain and your worry! Eventually, it all worked out, but it was stressful at the time.

Check out the smile on the duck’s face in the penultimate pic!

    Brilliant!

  4. The Jillybean says:

They would love it here then, almost the whole month of May it has rained here. I am SICK of the rain. Now give it a few weeks and we will be praying for rain I am sure, but for now, I want just a little sun.

  5. Patty says:

Oh how wonderful for those ducks! I can’t wait to see them happily swimming and splashing around in their pond. I just love ducks!

  6. Kathie says:

That giant puppy is magical. In no time at all the new dog has found a warm and safe place to sleep.

  7. heidiannie says:

I must be part duck, because I love the rain. Great photos, Suzanne!

    Hi Suzanne,
I am just adoring your blog!
We keep a small farm ourselves and you sure hit the duck nail on the head. I just released a pair of white crested ducks and caught them out in their first rain. They were plopped down in the middle of an abandoned barnyard just looking up at the raindrops in happy wonder. Ducks are always the only ones out in the rain.

Thanks so much for your regular posting, Amy

  9. Wheezay says:

Thank you for making my day, I loved the duck pictures and story, they were awesome !!

  10. Sandy says:

I LOVE the pictures of the DUCKS … frankly they are all so perfect. Thank you for a lovely journey and a fresh appreciation for rain … as we have two more days of it to go up here in MA. Two down, two to go. -Sandy

What a sweet adorable cozy post! Love the pics! I’m shopping for a new camera, and I’m really liking how great your photos turn out. Are you really happy with it? Is there anything about it that you DON’T like?

    I check your site everyday!

  13. Nancy in Atlanta says:

I LOVE this post – shucks, I love all your posts! But showcasing the ducks on a rainy day was brilliant. I love seeing the closeups of the duck bills – they SMILE! And the porch puppies look so very content….

  14. Box Call says:

Such great pictures. I started reading your column in the Charleston Daily Mail and coming to Chickens in the Road is now a daily ritual.

  15. Stephanie says:

    what adorable little faces… πŸ™‚

  16. Sarah says:

I LOVE that picture of those two dogs. πŸ™‚ The little one is curled up so tight against his friend. So sweet! My dogs love each other but they sure don’t curl up together.

At our last house there was a pond nearby with two white ducks. A cute couple. I loved it when it rained because they always came out of the pond and splashed around in the puddles. It could’ve been raining buckets but they were splashing around and having a blast the whole time. I loved driving by the pond on rainy days just so I could see those ducks and how happy they were.

  17. Judy D says:

Thanks for starting my day with such great pictures. You’ve got yourself some very content and happy critters. πŸ˜‰

  18. Lucy says:

I love these pictures. It’s so beautiful where you live. Pick a season. It always is. Especially in the rain. Which happenes here infrequently. Which really means … sometimes to never. I complain a lot. *sigh* Loved the ducks. Yesterday on my blog I posted a news thing that aired I don’t know when about a moma duck and her 12 little cuties. It’s one of those awwwww……things.

Okay, duck smirks completely made my morning.

  20. feathrencox says:

This blog is SO true! My goats, chickens, and other creatures do the same thing, but my goodness, my ducks are rulers of the yard when it rains! Are your ducks as LOUD as mine? I have guineas also and my ducks are BY FAR louder than the guineas! Funny how different barnyards work.

  21. Leah says:

It’s the ducks turn to shine! “He said it does’nt matter how much I splash and splatter,I’m just a lttle ducky after all!” πŸ™‚

  22. Claudia W. says:

How do you get anything done? I would just want to sit and soak all the wonderfulness of your farm in each day. Of course I realizre that without all of your hard work the farm wouldn’t exist, but oh! I would love to sit and enjoy everything!
The fur and feathered babies are all so adorable. They look so content in their lives with you.

  23. Cece says:
