The backyard’s bright as the crack of dawn, the front walk looks like runway lights, it’s kinda like noon in the dead of night…. My favorite song at the moment! Since I just turned on every light in my house! JUST BECAUSE I CAN.

It’s always so sudden when power returns. You can hardly believe it. For us, it’s a day earlier than anticipated (if that), so it was a surprise. A wonderful one.
EIGHT DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO MORE BUCKETS!!!!!!
And I have a generator now!!! I am so happy. I will never go through anything like those first six days again.
Of course, I had just sent Ross out to fill up the gas cans. Weston has a lot of mowing to do, though, ha. Mow, my child, until the gas is gone.
My neighbor is having his July 4th party tonight. Immediately after the power came on, he started shooting off fireworks. (It’s not dark yet.) We are all so excited around here, let me tell you. While the a/c is cooling the house down, we’re off to our neighbor’s fireworks party to celebrate!

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
