Photo Contest

Nov
15

Not to go all SAM-e on you or anything…. But when Jo told me about this photo contest for pictures of farm animals, how could I resist? The prize is $500 and a feature in “Living the Country Life” magazine. If you would like, you can vote for my entry at My Country Animals. It’s the one titled My Little Farm/Chickens in the Road…..and you will probably recognize the pictures.

You can vote for one entry every day through November 30. THANK YOU!

P.S. And please, please forgive Jo for telling me about a contest! (LOL)

Note: This contest looks pretty low-key. You can’t even see how many votes there are, but you can see the order of the entries from most-voted down here.

Thanks to you too! I just subscribed to their Free magazine. Free until next year would be my guess, but I love this type of magazine. Which was the primary focus of the letter I sent to the dear DB last week too. :D These magazines need to keep people happy!

I LOVE the picture of those adorable faces! I voted and bookmarked the page for easy return and daily voting. I HOPE YOU WIN!!! On another note… I’m relatively new here and have no clue what the SAM-e thing (debacle?) was about. Would/could you maybe post a link or links to the SAM-e saga, so us newbies can fill ourselves in? Thank you.

I voted yesterday and went back this morning to vote again but it showed that I had voted and wouldn’t let me vote again. Isn’t this a vote every day contest?

Vicki, I think the SAM-e sage defies explanation, LOL! Okay, really short–I entered a contest. The readers here tried so hard to help me win. It was for a “job” blogging for SAM-e’s Good Mood blog on their site. It was an extremely competitive and wild situation. Very heavy duty social media competitors in the contest. Despite all odds, I came very close to winning. The contest involved all sorts of high-tech cheating and who knows what else, including my site being hacked. Yes, HACKED. Really, it was crazy. I don’t even think that is an adequate retelling, but just writing down that much makes me really glad it’s over!!!! And I’ll never forget how hard people tried to help me win, asking their friends to vote, and doing everything they could. I’ll never get involved in something like that again. (Didn’t realize it would be like that when I entered.)

Re voting, it says you can vote once per day. Maybe it’s a 24-hour period? I don’t know….

    Suzanne,
I envision the Gang photo being the cover of your Book, Chickens in the Road: The Blog. Your book could just be a printed version of your blog, photos and all. Just a crazy idea! I voted too, good luck. :sun:

oh this is nothing as intense as Sam-e! But you know, although that was super competitive, and there were some tense moments, overall I don’t think it was a bad thing! It was more like loyalty run amok. Suzanne, these photos you submitted are fabulous! Love it.

When I saw this, I really wanted to enter my photos, but I also really want you to win. I voted for you yesterday and tried today, but it said I already voted. Maybe I misunderstood. I tried more than once, but it said “I voted” with a check next to your picture.

Patrice, I think it’s a 24 hour timer, so if you try to vote a few hours or even minutes before the day before, it tells you that you already voted.

When I had tried the Living the Country Life CITR link it showed I had already voted [voted yesterday, 12 hours ago]; then I tried accessing LTCR through facebook and it let me vote for today.

So follow Suzanne’s advise and go through facebook if you have a problem voting.

I sure hope you win, Suzanne….you deserve it.

I’ve been voting diligently and was so excited to see you at #2 today. Everyone’s pictures are great but yours are the BEST! My opinion may be a little biased, so I showed them to my 73 year old father for his opinion. He loved your pics so much he used the group shot of the animals as the background on his fancy shmancy new iPad! Goooooooooooo CITR!

I got curious about the entry that has been in the #1 spot for days, called “variety of fun” by Peter Denis, because, frankly, I didn’t this his pictures were very good. The comments were a little odd, too. I thought he must have a very popular blog, so I googled his name to try to find out what it is. No blog that I could find, but apparently he participates in something called vote swapping. I’d never heard of it before, but there are website/forums for people who enter contests, where they stack the vote by voting for one another’s entries.

One contest Peter Denis entered cancelled the vote when they found out about the vote swapping, and picked the winner by sweepstakes drawing instead. Another contest entry by Peter Denis says “About Me: I am a retired chemist, married to a beautiful woman and LOVE sweepstakes. We are on fixed income, so anything we win is a dream come true.” http://www.123people.com/ext/frm?ti=person%20finder&search_term=peter%20denis&search_country=US&st=person%20finder&target_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.getonlinevotes.com%2Ffrs-peter-denis%2F&section=blog&wrt_id=262

Anyway, it looks like Suzanne’s entry would be number 1 if Peter Denis weren’t doing vote swapping. ‘Cause her animals are cuter!

Whaledancer, well, the official rules say that it’s not totally on the votes. If I remember right, it’s something like the top 6 in the vote go to a round that is then decided by a panel, so I’m gonna just hope I can stay in the top 6! (After the SAM-e contest, nothing surprises me that people will do!)

Yep, I saw Suzanne’s in first place too! YAY! I hope they disqualify that person who’s using the vote swapping scam. That’s just a bit much I’d say.

OK, to be fair, the contest that shows on that vote swap site isn’t this one… still quite suspicious though. Ah well, we know that Suzanne is the best!

I got a little out of sync and my vote time is really odd now. It keeps slipping later and later in the evening. Oh well. I won’t be getting much sleep these next few days anyway! Get out the vote!!! :moo: :chicken: :woof:

  61. 11-25

We need to make comments on the voting site about how much we love to read Suzanne’s stories on her blog, so Country Living finds out about Suzanne and her life on the farm! Who knows what it could lead to, for Suzanne! :sheepjump:

  62. 11-27

    Suzanne,
You might want to put the photo contest someplace that is easier to find so we can continue to vote for you. I had to do some looking to find the post. If you could put a link on your main page it may not only be an easier way to get there, but also a reminder to do so. It would be such a shame if you slid out of the 1st place slot just because we all forgot.

I had to search your blog, but I wouldn’t let Jack, Clover and the others down!

  63. 11-27
    11:29
    am

Thanks, Patrice! I’ll start linking it on my daily farm photo. I’ve been Facebooking/Twittering it.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!!!! LAST DAY!!!!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
