Name That Doeling!

Clover and I could use some help.

We need to get our baby girl named so her papers can be processed. We made another trip to the goat farm to contemplate the situation.

Princess got into the spirit of things and hauled a bale of hay out to the barn with the goat lady.

She’s going to make a good farmer, don’t you think?

Me? I was taking pictures. Or I totally would have been carrying some hay, too. You know I would have.

This is the proud papa of Clover’s babies, by the way. His name is Champ. Clover liked him real well at first then he started drinking and staying out all night, seeing other women, so they’re through.

Clover’s babies were born July 3. The doeling is the one with the white top knot. They were two days old when this picture was taken.

Here they are again at about a week and a half old.

So what do you think? Nutmeg, Clarabelle, Penny, Taffy, or Cookie? Vote! And if you have an idea for the buckling’s name, suggest it in the comments. We’ll need to figure that out next!

UPDATE: I think the poll is working now. (I was having trouble with it earlier and had to take it out temporarily.) Or just vote in the comments, if you prefer! Thanks!

how about cinnamon for the buckling?

  2. happyathome says:

Those baby goats are so sweet! How exciting! :bananadance:

  3. m says:

I was going to suggest Cinnamon for the girly-goat. Then I read comment #1 :big sigh: Always just behind the curve :big roll eyes:

Anyway, my mood this morning is el-yucko so I haven’t voted. Perhaps after the cup of tea.

As for you little buck … well how about ‘Buck’? He is your first, and it is an easy name to pronounce. Good consonants.

Do goats learn their names … or do they tend to be a bit independent like a cat, at least until the cat decides its a good choice to respond to the mistress’ call.

    M

  4. Enid says:

I think she looks like “Buttercup”

  5. Heidi says:

For the little girl I think Tallula Belle or just Tallula – I love that name!! LOL

  6. Suzanne McMinn says:

Is the poll working for anyone? I’m afraid the poll plugin isn’t functioning right… If it isn’t, vote in the comments? But vote for one of the five names listed in the poll, LOL. Thanks for your help!

  7. wkf says:

Of the choices I picked Nutmeg. But I liked Celeste. May be the boys name could be Herb. Or Red or Bubba. :flying:

  8. wkf says:

Ummm… one of your banner ads is for on line porn. Thought I was seeing things haven’t had my coffee. I am not a prude just wasn’t expecting that. :flying:

  9. Gail Lawson says:

The little doeling is definitely “Nutmeg”. How about “Billy” for the buck? Another good farm boy name…
    good old “Junior”!

  10. Suzanne McMinn says:

ack!!!! I wasn’t expecting that either!

Bear with me while I figure out how to either adjust the settings by which they filter ads to my site or just take it off if I have to. That’s not acceptable. I apologize!

  11. TeresaH says:

I voted for Penny for the doeling. I think Copper would be a good name for the buck. Then you’d have a Copper Penny

  12. Cheryl McMinn says:

I like the name cinnamon for the buck even before I read the comments. I thought Clove, Nutmeg andl Cinnamon sounded good together. Love your pictures and your sight. Chery

  13. Cheryl McMinn says:

I voted for Nutmeg but it won’t show me the results so like you I wonder if it’s working properly Cheryl

    I like Clarabelle..very Beverly Hillbillies I think *G*

and I DO like Buck for the boy, its easy to remember and makes me think of John Candy.

  15. Remudamom says:

I like Clara for the girly and seconding Copper for the boy.

  16. Ashley says:

I tried to vote Nutmeg, the page disappeared when I pressed vote. If she’s nutmeg, he should probably be cinnamon..

  17. Diane says:

I like Buck for the boy. Or Champ Jr.

    Diane

    Beau – Bo
    Joker
    Rascal

  24. JaneSmith,(yes,really) says:

    I vote for Clarabelle!!!

  25. heidi says:

I vote for Taffy- What is it with all this unauthorized name choices? She looks like homemade taffy-and goatsmilk taffy sounds like YUM!

  26. Phyllis says:

I vote ‘Penny’ for the girl and ‘Buck’ for the boy.
    They’re adorable!!

  27. Norma says:

Hi, I vote for Penny and Copper for the little guy. I agree with the others (Copper-Penny)

    Penny and Copper
    (or)
    Nutmeg and Cinnamon
    (or)
    Clarabell and Bobby Joe

  29. Kim W says:

Penny for the doe and Dewy for the Buckling.

    Blessings from Ohio…

  30. Tori Lennox says:

I like Nutmeg for the doeling.

For the buck, how about Weather since he’ll be a whether? *g*

  31. susan says:

If you go with Nutmeg for the doeling then you could go with the spices other half, Mace for the buck.

  32. Biddy says:

Nutmeg for the doeling and Copper for the buckling. Or maybe Billy or Gruff… choices choices

  33. wammy says:

:clock: time is running out…Before I saw the poll I had two names picked out…Americus Amy for short and Independence Indy for short. Since thyew ere born newar the 4th of July.

  34. Suzette says:

I voted for Nutmeg. I kind of like Honey. Get it? Clover…Honey…. ??? Maybe it’s just me.

I also like Nutmeg and Cinnamon – as well as Penny and Copper.

I’m a firm believer in animals helping to choose their own names. Both of my cats told me what they wanted to be named…well, sorta. We’ve also been known to change an animal’s name when it turned out that what we originally chose didn’t fit their personality. Maybe you should wait and see what kind of characters they are. One or the other of them may be more “spicy” than the other.

Whatever you name them, they are cute, cute cute!

  35. Kathy R says:

Nutmeg and Cinnamon (of course the neighborhood kids give them nicknames – does that make them Nut and Sin?)

  36. Heather Harper says:

I voted for Clarabelle, because it sounds so cute with Coco.

But, the poll would not load for me.

  37. Amy says:

I MISSED THE PORN???? Sheesh, I really have to get up earlier. Who needs sleep when Suzanne has porn? :typing: Isn’t technology wonderful?

Oh, if the goats had been born on the fourth, you could have taken my dog’s name “Indy” short of Independence.

From the choices given: Nutmeg for girl Cinnamon for boy

    OR

Clarabelle for girl Charlie for boy

  38. Christine says:

    Penny!
I have an aunt named Penny and I love her so I think that is a good name.
Names are funny because I dont know if you do this but I work around 20 four year olds everyday during the school year and if we meet a little hellyan we swear that , that childs name can never become someone we loves name because it is cursed or something of that sort.

So I have never met a PEnny I dont like and that means that name is still good.

    Weird??? I know

  39. Amelia says:

Oh, I am like so many ahead of me – name should be Cinnamon.

for the little boy goat I suggest Oscar.

  40. Fannie M Wiggins says:

I think “Nutmeg” for your little girl and “Sage for your little boy. Still in the spice family but more manly sounding. There’s my two cents for the day. to all.

  41. becki says:

I like Sage for the buckling. Wise, noble, steady.

  42. Jen says:

When I first saw the pics, I swore that the doeling looked like she had a dollop of whipped cream on top of her head. How about Dollop for the doeling and Dab for the buckling?

Just a thought from this ‘Canuck’!

I enjoy my daily stop here, and I did try the Grandmother Bread. It was a hit in this house!

  43. Jan says:

Definitely Copper and Penny! (Excuse us while your readers take over your decisions for you.;)

  44. smiledarlin says:

I like Nutmeg for your doe and how about Basil for the buck?
Still in the spices but more distinguished for the male….
    Good luck with them.

  45. Cathy J. says:

Chance or Cooper for the buckling? Loved the Tallulah idea for the doeling- she will have attitude! :shimmy:

  46. Crystal B. says:

I like Nutmeg. 🙂 They are so cute.

  47. Treasia says:

My vote goes for nutmeg and #1 took my answer on the boy. I think cinnamon would be most appropriate.

  48. kelly says:

    Clarabelle and Cooper! Cuties….

  49. Diane says:

Clarabelle and Rudolph–the little goat who thought he was a reindeer.

  50. Astronomerswife says:

My 4-year-old twin daughters vote for Clarabelle! They also said we needed to put the butterfly smiley in our post somewhere… :butterfly:

  51. pamela says:

The little boy looks like an “OTIS”.

  52. Letha James says:

    Clarabella!!!

  53. Lisa J says:

I like Clarabelle and Charile that someone else suggested.
I also like Ginger and Grant.
I also want two little goats of my own.

  54. Itsme in Wi says:

Penny and Copper for sure!! Gotta be!

  55. Lora says:

What came to my mind was Wesley and Buttercup from “The Princess Bride.”

  56. Donna says:

How funny, I thought of Clarabell before I saw you mentioned it! A “C” name is cute, to be close to momma Clover’s name! Chrissie, Clarabelle, Claire,….Honey (for Clover Honey)..LOL
For the male…”Billy the Kid”, Rocky (may go with Champ), Cody (trying to think of “C” names to go with Clover, Clarabelle), CONAN, CONNER…lol :sheepjump: :fryingpan:

  57. Sharon Elkins says:

    I like Penny.

  58. Laura says:

Cousin Jamie who is also a goat farmer always names her goats with the same first letter as their momma goat. That way she always knows who has what (easy geneology) (sp?). So Clover’s babies should be (in my humble opinion), Cookie and Cletus. Or Cinnamon and Cassius. Something fun and unusual.

  59. Claudia W says:

I like the name Calrabelle for that sweet little girl!

  60. Claudia W says:

The little boy wants to answer to Clive.

  61. Claudia W says:

And I meant Clarabelle for the girl! DUH! A little dyslexic this morning.

  62. Julie Andrea in Englehart, ON says:

Well, you know I am partial to Cloe + Vern.
Get it, Clover = Cloe + Vern! hee hee

But, my second choice would be Clarabelle, such a sweet and feminine name.

Cassius or Clay for the male because his dad’s name was Champ .. and Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) was ‘The Champ’!

Float like a :butterfly: , sting like a bee!

  63. Jane says:

Doeling- Taffy! She looks like a piece of ginger saltwater taffy with that white center. They’re so adorable!

  64. Lisa in California says:

They have the prettiest, golden coloring. How about “honey” for the baby…especially since her mama is Clover (Clover – Honey…get it?) It’s the first name I thought of for her when I saw the picture.

  65. Karen H says:

I like Taffy but she sorta looks like a Petunia or Sweet Pea. They are the cutest babies! You are so lucky

  66. Robin G. says:

I’m a fan of Penny, myself. Cute, but not *too* cute, if you catch my drift.

  67. Ramona says:

I love Clarabelle for the girl. It just seems to fit her. I like the idea of naming them both “C” names for the geneology. So what about Clay or Copper for the boy. They are so darn cute whatever you decide to name them.

  68. ninepoundhammer says:

With the white patch on her head, the doeling looks like she should be named Doily. The male?–he’s definately a Flash.

  69. Wendy says:

I have a Cora Belle so I do like Clarabelle but I think Copper and Penny are very cute too!
I missed the porn too but I did see a racy Jessica Simpson add on a few days ago. But I figured Hey, Suzanne’s into romance

  70. Beach Girl says:

How about Nutmeg for the doeling and Clove for the buckling? That way you keep the theme of the spices going.

  71. Meghan Rosenstengel says:

I had a great aunt named Clarabelle so that will be my vote for your little girl.

How about Buffalo Bob or Horace Horsecollar for the boy.

  72. Deb says:

Penny for the girl and Copper for the boy (just like many others have said). Nutmeg is cute….but it’s just harder to get out those two syllables than just “Penny.”

  73. Amy says:

Nutmeg and Cinnamon get my votes!

  74. G-Mama says:

Clover’s son and daughter should be named “Alfalfa” and “Heather.” They are so beautiful and I envy your good luck in being able to bring them to your home.

  75. laney says:

Nutmeg for the little lady and I love Charlie for the young gent.

  76. Jean says:

I’m with Jane – the doeling really does look like a piece of saltwater Taffy. So I like Taffy for the doeling and maybe Toffee for the buck – keeping the candy idea.

  77. Employee No. 3699 says:

Nutmeg for the doeling…and Mace for the buckling, as they come from the same plant.

  78. Molly says:

I like Penny for the girl and you could name the buck Dime.

  79. M says:

:snoopy: I worked on a goat farm one summer when I was in high school. All the female goats names ended in “belle,” so that would be my choice- as for the fella, not sure. One thing I learned about goat farms…your hands get REALLY strong from milking!

  80. Kim says:

I love the name Nutmeg! Then you could name the boy Mace or some other spice name that sounds manly. BTW, I think Princess would make a good farmer. She is carrying bales of hay that I can hardly pick up myself. Those things are HEAVY!

  81. Gizmo says:

I vote for Nutmeg and Basil for the buckling (just like Darlin up above).
How about Marmelade and Junior for next year??

  82. Stephanie in KY says:

Oh gosh, you have to go with Copper and Penny!! Too cute! They’re just precious, I can’t wait to watch them grow up. :woof:

  83. sunnid755 says:

:fryingpan: Recovering from surgery and don’t know if I’m doing this right, but how bout cinnasugar and cinnamin, she reminds me of cinnamin toast. 2nd choice taffy and beauregard “bo” for short

  84. emg says:

You definately have to go with somewhat matching names for them. Nutmeg is cute for the girl…but I don’t what you would do for the boy. What about something else like Sonny & Cher or Donnie and Marie….that’s cute sometimes too!

  85. Teri Dugan says:

    I LIKE CLARABELLE AND HANS!

  86. Shimmy Mom says:

Of the choices I like Clarabell. I think you should name the boy Buck. ( Kinda a play on words. Boys are bucks and they like to head butt a lot and they look like they’re bucking when they do.)

  87. Paige says:

    Definitely Nutmeg :sheepjump:

  88. Shari C says:

I would choose Ginger for the girl and Nutmeg for the boy.

  89. ML says:

Whenever it comes to names it has to sound good when you are yelling it. For instance when you are calling for your little girl goat to come home, just imagine, “Claaraaabelll!” It sounds perfect and will travel far up those hills of yours.

  90. Michigan Marissa says:

A suggestion for the buckling (or a couple).
    1. Chocolate
    2. Cafe (Spanish for brown)
    3. Hazel

  91. Kathleen in MI says:

I voted Cookie for the girl to stay with the “C” theme and also because the white around her nose and mouth look like she dipped her snout in a glass of milk, just like a cookie.

  92. Estella says:

    The goats are so cute!

  93. ulli says:

    Billy for the buckling!

  94. Rooth says:

Joseph for the lil man goat

  95. catslady says:

Although I voted for Taffy, I like the idea of matching names.

  96. Jake says:

If you go with Nutmeg for the buckling please spell Cinnamon – Cinnaman for the buck if thats to be his name. Leave the poor guy a little dignity. LOL!

Nutmeg & Sage…Now these are lovely names for the cuties and get my vote.

  97. Susan says:

I like Nutmeg & Sage too. They are darling! :shimmy:

  98. Brandy says:

I like Nutmeg for the doeling and Cinnamon or Mace (As suggested above) for the male.

  99. Jennifer Robin says:

Clarabelle for the doeling, and Nutmeg for the buckling would be my suggestion.

  100. robin says:

keeping the “c” i like cinnamon;nutmeg is cute and color works!

  101. Kathy says:

I;m thinking Nip for the Boy and Tuck for the girl

  102. Donna says:

Wouldn’t Clarence and Clarabelle be cute?

  103. Jodie says:

what about Fred & Ginger or Roy & Dale or Boggie & Bacall? Any two famous names female & male. But I voted for Nutmeg cause she’s sweet heart and it’s a cute name. The buckling should be Cinnamon or Spice.

  104. Leslie says:

I like Cinnamon for the girl and Nutmeg for the boy. Just a thought.

  105. Pam says:

…and now you’ve been nominated for an award!

  106. DeeBee says:

I’d name her Nutmeg and call her “Meg”.
