i’m not dead yet cuz he never pulled the trigger. And bacon grease is really just as good and a lot lless work – come on – admit it woman – and then once again cuz miracles outweighed medicine. amen for country life. can’t wait to get back there.

  2. Julie says:

I once interviewed a woman in Alabama (for a newspaper story) who was turning 109. As I interviewed her, her daughter was tending to “chitlins” in an iron skillet in the kitchen. She had over 300 children, grand children, and great-grand children. Country life was good for her…

  3. Carol says:

OOOOOOOO My mom used to make homemade fries using Lard. They were the BEST tasting fries ever! My mom’s family used Lard all the time and they all lived to be in their 80’s and 90’s.

  4. Runningtrails says:

Looks good and I have heard from cooks that lard does make the best grease for frying. Turns things a nice crispy light brown. You can eat just about anything you want if you work it off.

Exercise is the key to long life. Food – not so much. So go ahead, use that lard!

  5. Leah says:

Looks good! I had onion rings last night. Eating wheat toast with REAL butter right now….People in my family live to be in their 90’s ate bacon and eggs everyday and drank coffee all day long!

  6. Valerie says:

So….were those fries as good as they look?

  7. Barbee' says:

    Oh, my! Good country cookin’.

  8. CATRAY44 says:

Because of the higher smoking point, less fat is absorbed into the food being fried then with vegetable oil. :sheep: :snoopy:

  13. Peggy says:

Those tatars look so good! Now back to my northern up bringing. I remember rendering lard and then my Mom would put the cracklins in the mashed potatoes. I liked them as long as the cracklins were not hard. If cooked just right they are like eating gooooooooood candy.

  14. YayaOrchid says:

Aww…don’t beat yourself over the head for eating delicious food. I have a sneaky suspicion that the food industry invested big time into making us believe the foods people used to eat were bad, so we could rush to the supermarket to buy THEIR products. It’s all about marketing ploys! The old timers lived long productive lives. It’s OUR generation that’s seeing all the heart disease and whatnot, and we’ve been eating what the food industry has been selling us.

On a final note, I have to say I greatly admire your way of life and I admire you for sharing with us all the wonderful things you’re doing. Thank you Suzanne!
