On Sale, and a Postcard from the Future

Several weeks ago, I got an email from someone who works at a bookstore and had an advance copy of my book. She told me she was so sad when the book ended. She didn’t want it to end. I wrote her back and told her the story didn’t really end–I still write every day right here at Chickens in the Road.

I’m still living my story–the next story. New life, new love, new adventure, new things to learn. I’m very excited about the future, and I hope you’ll stay with me! Life is a bold adventure, and I am far from done living it.

I’m doing a booksigning this Thursday, October 17, at Taylor Books in Charleston, from 6:00 to 7:30–please come see me! This Thursday is also the same day as Charleston’s ArtWalk, 5:30 to 7:30–so come get a signed copy of my book and get free wine and snacks up and down the street!

See inside the book. Today, you will finally be able to see the amazing job my publisher did with this book in print. The cover image is vivid, and inside the book, chickens are sprinkled artfully throughout the pages. The photographs are in full color and glossy, and the recipe/craft sections in the back are also done beautifully. And yes, they even got in that photo of me with the chicken that I didn’t want on the cover–in the author bio at the back of the book jacket. (I forgive them! LOL!) I’m so grateful to HarperCollins for the incredible care they took of my book, and of me. This is a book I hope you’ll want to have in print and keep–and share as gifts with friends and family.

Congrats on your Book Release Day!!! I read the Kindle version over the weekend because I couldn’t wait another second for the book to come out. But I still want to get it in hardback, so that I can have it in physical form. I loved it, and hope there’s a sequel someday. :happyflower:

This book is a labor of love, blood, sweat and tears and I know you are (as you should be) very proud of the end result. You are an inspiration to us all to get up off the couch and live life like it should be lived.

I’m so anxious for the book to get here..pre-ordered from Amazon in August. Supposed to get here some time next week! Wonder why so long…oh well, anticipation is worthwhile. I’ve really enjoyed the blog and nearly ordered the book for my Kindle..but, I just couldn’t. I needed all those color pages.

  11. Roooth says:

Ordered months ago and it’s on its way!

  12. charlie says:

Amazon says I will get my book today! Can’t wait.

  13. Camille says:

Just finished reading the first chapter you offered and I am HOOKED! I don’t think I can wait for Amazon to ship…so I’m going to the local bookstore and pick one up today. Honestly Suzanne, I can’t wait to read the rest of the book. We all knew this anyways but it bears repeating…You are an excellent story teller. Beautifully written. Congratulations!

  14. PaulaA says:

I hope the book is a great commercial success for you, but it is already a total LIFE success. Good luck at the book signing.

Got my copy today and can’t wait to start reading it!! :chicken:

  16. bbkrehmeyer says:

Read the first chapter. Just not enough to entice me to spend the bucks . I have enjoyed reading the blogs for several years.but it too has lost my interest. For now I shall let it go.
Good luck on the book sale and your new life journey. (And you are an awesome writer).

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

bbkrehmeyer, and yet you felt driven/motivated to come here today, on my day of book release celebration, to say that to me. I wonder why? I’m glad I provided several years of enjoyment for you. Entertaining, inspiring, and providing a little bit of joy in the world IS my main goal, and for the most part, it’s free–to take or leave! 🙂

  17. bbkrehmeyer says:

Suzanne, I did not realize it was a book signonge I live thousands of miles from your home. As I said,I enjoyed your blogsite and laughed and cried w/ your learning experiences. Since I grew up ln a huge sheep and cattle ranch I could relate. I just feel that in this new episode of your life.my interests have taken a different path. Its not your writing or your fault. I too become bored and restless changing directions on a whim
As i change so does my likes in my reading material. It was NOT my intention to offend you and if I did Im sorry I know many women live vicariously through your life journey. Once again I”m sorry if I offended you. It was not my intent. I will say again, good luck with the book.

  18. Cousin Mark says:

You know Cuz that you will have to write Volume II…….. More Chickens, a Paved Road and a Barn full of Critters and Characters????????

  19. Heather says:

I received my copy from Amazon today. It really is a beautiful book, Suzanne! The photo section is gorgeous!

  20. Erin F says:

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us! I’m waiting anxiously for my copy as a Christmas present. I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait that long! I’ve been reading for years, although largely silent. Congratulations on your book publishing!

  21. Luv2Quilt says:

Just checked. Mine shipped from Amazon. Can’t wait to get it!!!!!!!!! Have followed your blog for awhile and you have already inspired me to make some life changes so I can’t wait to see what inspiration I get from the book.

    Rhonda

  22. AnnieB says:

I am so excited – my copy is to arrive tomorrow! Thank you Suzanne, and I am SOOOOOO very glad that your writing continues here on this blog. I feel as if we are friends, even though we’ve never met (the internet is strange, isn’t it)! God bless you, and give Maia a pat on the head for me :snuggle:

  23. Lana says:

I managed to wait to purchase your book until it came out today in hardback – got it this morning at Barnes and Noble – although my Nook has been working very hard to get me to buy it sooner. I am in the midst of opening season where I work (very long hours), and my sister moving into a new home (very long hours!), so am not able to read it for a few days yet. But I have it all planned – the book, pumpkin seeds, lemonaide, (and maybe a toddy!) in my rocking chair. Don’t let the negative people get to you. For some reason, they always seem to be around.

  24. Lana says:

    P. S. Neglected to tell you that the Barnes and Noble I frequent has your book in the Cookbook section. Is that where it should be?

  25. dancemom80 says:

    Suzanne,

I am so excited!!! My book arrived today, and it is beautiful. You can certainly be proud of this accomplishment!

    Linda McCook :cowsleep:

  26. laurie hamar says:

Made a special trip to the mailbox yesterday…but no, not in yet….why? why? why must I wait????? NOT FAIR!

  27. Snapper119 says:

ARGH!!!!! My book is being held hostage at the Post Office behind me…lol! I cannot wait for the PO to open!!
    Congratulations Suzanne!

  28. pugwaggin says:

:shimmy: I am so excited for you!! I am waiting for my copy and plan to disappear into my sunroom/sewing room to read. My sunroom was changed into my little bit of country room where I can create and view my hens. All of this came about after the 2012 Chickens in the Road Retreat. I made a few dreams come true after that weekend. Maybe one day I can get my hubby to move to the mountains one day and live in a little house in the country. You keep me inspired.
    Karen

  29. cherylinwv says:

Lana, it’s in the cookbook section at Books-A-Million as well, which would have been the last place I would have looked. I had to ask one of the employees where to find it.
