The Frolicking Lamb

Mar

I’m starting to transition Annabelle to spending some time in the goat yard because she’s two months old and she weighs 30 pounds. I think it might look weird when she weighs 150 pounds and is still sleeping on her blankie on the porch and drinking a bottle, so as much as I want her to be a little lambkin forever, I have to teach her that she is a sheep.

The other sheep might need to be taught that she’s a sheep, too.

The Miss Jacobs: “What is that thing?”

Annabelle tries to make friends.
img_329311
But then she starts frolicking.
img_329412
And they are having none of it.
img_332221
And so she runs here.
img_329814
And she runs there.
img_328910
And she leaps.
img_32816
And she lands.
img_32848
She stops for a second to think of what to do next.
img_331120
Then she runs some more.
img_32765
And leaps some more.
img_32744
And discovers that she can fly.
img_32723
Then she’s all tuckered and she cries at the gate until I let her come back to the porch so she can drink her bottle and snuggle down on her blankie……

…..because she’s really just a wee lamb, after all.

  1. Sheila Z says:

I think it was the flying that put the finishing touches on the tired. I know I got exhausted just looking at the energy Annabelle has. She looks fat and sassy though.

  2. Gail says:

Annabelle is absolutely adorable! The “flying” photo is great!

  3. shirley says:

I have her picture on my phone as my wallpaper.I took it from the computer monitor so I can show everybody. She’s just too precious.

  4. CindyP says:

Just precious!! Oh Sweet Annabelle…….. She’s probly wondering why those big things with horns aren’t playing with her like the big white puppy!!

  5. Cyndi Lewis says:

Too, too cute! I love her! Great photos too!

  6. Bee says:

Awww, can’t she stay a wee lamb forever? And sleep on the porch with the Giant Puppy? You can get rid of the bottle, just leave the blankie.

She’s just so cute. That flying picture is wonderful.

  7. Bridget says:

Oh, she’s adorable! What a cutie pie. I’d love to have a little bottle baby one day…

  8. Cozy Home Chronicles says:

My 4-year-old daughter can’t get enough of this lamb, it is SO PRECIOUS! She said it makes her excited for Easter! Thanks for sharing…

  9. Kate says:

What an adorable cuddly face! I want one, I want one! … well, maybe it’s not the best idea, as my small urban space is not conducive to frolicking. And I’m terribly allergic to wool. :sheepjump:

  10. Mimi says:

I desperately want a lamb of my own, but my suburban neighbors would probably not be amused 😕

  11. Lauri says:

Oh my gosh Suzanne! You MUST find a way to stop her from growing up. She is the cutest little thing I have ever seen. I don’t think I would get anything done if I were you. I would just be kissing her little face all day long! Thanks for sharing her with us. She makes me smile every morning.

  12. epon4 says:

    Suzanne,

I love the fact that I have found someone who takes more pictures than I do!! (gotta thank the person who invented digi cams!)

Looks like Miss Annabelle had a wonderful day. The flying lamb picture must be turned into a poster or put on the cover of a book! (I’m thinking your editors wouldn’t go for that on your next romance novel, huh?)

  13. Linnet says:

I too loved the flying photo. Amazing! You make me wish I had a little lamb, she looks so soft and sweet.

  14. tillie says:

I can’t believe how she has grown in such a short time! she’s so fluffy and plump now…

the flying lamb picture is priceless!

  15. Jill S. says:

I want to love her up, she looks so sweet!

  16. Treasia/TruckersWife says:

All the photos are great but the one of her flying towards the end is superb.

  17. Bonnie Schmidt says:

Here’s an idea! Copy the flying lamb photo – say 8X10 and offer copies for sale. I would use it amidst my Easter decor. Others would love it, too – we all love Annabelle. A great fund raiser idea for your blog. Bonnie

  18. Suzanne, the Farmer's Wife says:

She’s seriously the cutest thing ever. Just a look from her could melt the coldest heart.

  19. Nancy K. says:

Do you have any other lambs her age that she can make friends with?

The ability to fly would be a plus!

    😉

  20. Kathryn says:

I am in love with Annabelle’s ears. I swear, they are the most perfect things in this world.

  21. Robin G. says:

One needs a proper nap after so much frolicking!

Perhaps she’ll transition well from bottles to cookies?

  22. Mel says:

Im in love ….and I want to live there…on the porch…

  23. Linda says:

She is just a doll baby. How many pics did you have to take to catch the flying lamb one? I see she still has her tail is she going to get to keep it?

  24. TSannie/annbb says:

The second to last photo is just filled with joyeux de vivre! Lovely!

  25. Fencepost says:

And a cute wee one she is!
Love these pictures. Hope they eventually get used to eachother and the accept her in their clan.

  26. Lucy says:

Just a baby. I love her.

  27. trish says:

I’m with everyone else. The flying photo is excellent!!! I love the idea of selling the photo as a fundraiser. I would buy it!!!

  28. Bobbie says:

I want Annabelle for my very own-or one just like her. But, I do have to say that I “think” when she went out in the goat yard, she was actually showing her little self off making the goats wish they were that cute. But when those goats are just little babies, they are pretty darn cute-I’ve not seen one fly, but all of a sudden, out of the blue,– the babies will just jump straght in the air . That little act can just about be as cute as a flying lamb. Hugs, Bobbie

  29. Shirley says:

Does she get cookies like the goats? I saw David Letterman last night. He had Jack Hannah on with two Nubian Goats. They were really cute. Reminded me of your babies.

    • feathrencox says:

Jack Hanna was on last night? DRAT! He’s my hero…I’m reading his autobiography right now and would have LOVED to see him with goats!
Highly recommend reading his book…it’s so good! Gives a lot of behind the scenes details!

  30. Wheezay says:

Oh I LOVE the Flying picture ,so cool !! :sheep:
I’m glad the chickens are getting out to enjoy the nice weather too. I wish I had room to have chickens, even one…sigh.. :chicken:

  31. Carol says:

I agree, she still is wee – you must hold her and cuddle her as long as possible. :sheep:

  32. Nancy in Atlanta says:

Looks like her ears help her fly! She’s beautiful, adorable, absolutely precious; oh, you’ve heard all that already, huh? Poster, children’s book cover, 2010 calendar? Epon4 DOES have a good idea – your heroine could be a shepardess named Mary who meets a goatherd….. :sheep: :snuggle:

  33. catslady says:

She is just too cute and adorable for words. Does she really ever have to know she’s a lamb :sheepjump:

  34. Darlene says:

What a great way to start our day! Thanks for the wonderful pictues as we watch another baby grow up 🙂

  35. Lynn says:

That is of course THE MOST adorable thing I have ever seen, thank you for making my day!

  36. Mollster says:

    Too, Too adorable….

  37. thecrazysheeplady says:

Yay for flying lambs! Great pics!

  38. feathrencox says:

The flying lamb pic is just too precious for words! You amaze me with some of these photos because I know how difficult it is to get that just right shot! I still haven’t perfected the magic of getting my goat to hold still long enough to snap a picture! Well, unless she’s eating or asleep!
Don’t let her grow up too quick! You will be so sad when the day comes when she finally “gets the memo” that’s she’s a sheep! I know I was devestated last spring when we put out our 3 hens we raised from chicks that acted like cats and they finally realized they were chickens! SO SAD! 🙁

  39. Susan says:

I have a feeling Annabelle will be sleeping on your porch no matter how big she gets. :airkiss:

  40. Claudia W. says:

That is just the most precious thing I have ever seen. It did my heart good to see how happy and healthy little Annabelle is. (Not that I had any doubt in my mind she would be…you are after all the best fur/wool/feather-baby mom there could be) She’s so cute and cuddly looking, I want to cuddle up in her blankey with her.

  41. Jeanine says:

You can’t make something up as beautiful as that! WOW! Thank you for the pictures! It made my day!

  42. Melissa Marsh says:

The second to last picture is amazing, how you caught her in mid-air like that. Wow.

LOVE the pictures. Made me smile. You make so many people’s days so much brighter, Suzanne. I can’t thank you enough! :sheep:

  43. Brandy says:

Annabelle is adorable, love the frolicking pictures.

  44. Jodie says:

I DO think you need to write a series of children’s books with your farm animal photos. This one would make a great little lamb story. About Annabelle the little lamb who wants to be a big sheep but gets tired out and retires back to her little blankie.

  45. Tina C. says:

She looks like a cute little stuffed animal! What a sweetie. Is weighing 150 pounds and laying about on the porch a bad thing?!?!
I say, let her do it!

  46. Dawn says:

Annabelle is so adorable–love her leaping and flying and frolicking!

  47. Cranberry says:

What a yummy little darling, I can see why books have been written about baby sheep. Sweet lil’ girl! :sheepjump:

  48. SuzieQ says:

The flying picture should be in the dictionary for “frolicking”..cutest thing I’ve seen in ages.. :sheep:

  49. Amy Weishuhn says:

Wheeeeee! It looks like such fun to be a lamb.

  50. Sarah S. says:

Aww I love it when sheep do that! One of ours once almost jumped as high as my daughters head! It was funny :sheep:

Omg! I think I want one! If only I had a farm to go with it!!

  52. Jo says:

I’m sorry for coming back here, Suzanne…but oh how I miss stories about little Annabelle. :sheepjump: These pictures of her just make me happy.
