The chickens and ducks have been eating pretty good on the byproducts of my harvest preservation efforts.
Which got me thinking……
Why am I blanching and peeling tomatoes? Where is my little red hen? You know, the one who does all the work? I NEED A BREAK.
I went looking for her. Little Red Hen? LITTLE RED HEN!
I know she was here eating tomatoes just a minute ago– WHERE’D SHE GO? She has work to do!
I think the other chickens are covering for her.
Clover: “You know you can’t trust a chicken.”
LITTLE RED HEN!
Little Red Hen?
Wait…… THERE SHE IS!!!
“I’ve got work for you, missy! Tomatoes to peel, zucchini to slice, peppers to chop! Corn to cut, apples to core, peaches to freeze!”
“And when you’re done with that, you can rub my feet.”
GET BACK HERE, LITTLE RED HEN!!!!!

It’s 3 a.m. and I can’t sleep. In checking the blogs, you had this already posted and at this hour, I find this positively hilarious. Really enjoy your site. I used to have a rooster like Mean Rooster, same breed, same attitude. He died.

Can I borrow your little red hen when you’re through? My food processor broke today, it’s ancient, and I diced 32 cups of cucumbers, squash, peppers, and onions today. She’s a beautiful hen by the way.

:happyflower: A big hawk tried to steal my new little Partridge rock hen yesterday but my mean ole guineas chased him off!! And to think how I chase that guinea with the broom. He may get something extra today.

Tracey, do you have a blog? I would love to read about your guineas. I miss them so much, noisy as they are. My grandparents had some. I’m 73 so you see those memories go back a’ways.

I keep talking to my kids about the Little Red Hen…they just look at me funny. I guess somehow they missed that story growing up. Thanks for bringing it up, it brought a smile to me first then this morning!

I personally like the evil look that Mean Rooster is giving you in the photo with Clover in it!
I can imagine him thinking, “I have your Little Red Hen right here. Come and get her!”
Thanks for giving us a tour of your farm every day!

I love your reference to that old story!!! She didn’t look too pleased about the foot rub, though. Is that in her contract?
