So what are you doing for vacation? I’ve got a new vacation poll up (in the sidebar) but tell me more! Where are you going? What are you doing?
We’re doing Ocracoke Island next week, and in the fall we’ve got a house for a week on Carova Beach (both are in the Outer Banks of North Carolina), and we’re also going to West Virginia where my family has an old farmhouse back in the holler. (Really. In the holler. We’ll eat fried squirrel and drink out of the still and scratch ourselves. Okay, just kidding. About the fried squirrel. They eat groundhog there.) We didn’t go on vacation at all last summer because we were still trying to sell our old house in Texas and we were paying two mortgages and trying to stay above water. Happily, this year is better so we’re making up for it.
What about you?

:hyper: I’m moving to RI. And, we might travel to Vegas.

We don’t usually do vacation in the summer, but we’re thinking of a few days in Maine or Lake Placid. We’ll see. Or maybe Vegas if I win it

I’m going to a conference, finish my mainstream novel FALLING OUT OF BED, teach World Lit. I in four weeks, then my daughter and I are going to California on a “girls’ trip.” My husband and I are going to London and Paris in October!:bananadance:

Suzanne, those sound like fun trips. We’re just doing a few long weekends at the lake. Summer is our busy time at work, so it’s hard to get away. I am doing Reno though :bananadance:
and I might ask Mary if she’ll pack me in her suitcase for her London and Paris trip…

I go to Cape Cod every August, joining up with my brother, sis-in-law and nephews and dozens of our friends and their families — all under the guise of a faux spaghetti festival. (Would take way too long to explain here. LOLOL)
Before then, my older nephew is spending the month of July with me here in the Keys. He’ll volunteer at the dolphin facility while I work. I can’t wait!

Suzanne, your trips sound great! We haven’t really started a family vacation tradition yet (the youngest just turned two). Maybe in another year or so. Just the annual trip to MN for work has been a challenge.

I’m looking forward to moving into my own home (no longer a renter!) and hope to take at least one trip to Swansboro, NC to visit a good friend. I knew if I stayed in Charlotte long enough, one of my friends would move to the beach

Hubby works in summer, I work in winter-you get the picture. Maybe a weekend here and there to the city or to my sisters/MIL’s in another province(I’m from Canada).

Let’s see. I believe we’ll be losing our minds while adding on three rooms to the house.
That seems to be the master plan.
HOWEVER, next year, when my van is paid off, and I will see some revenue from my work, we’ll be going to San Antonio again. Oh, and did I mention that the EPIC conference will be the same week? Heh

Vacation: I wanna go on vacation. DH works sunup to sundown in the summer so vacations are rare. But that’s okay because I’m writing. :bananadance:

Ack, we must’ve been living parallel lives. We didn’t go anywhere last summer due to still trying to sell a stupid house and paying two mortgages. Then when we sold it in September, we said screw it, even though we’re broke, we’re going to Disneyworld! (We went in Jan. and we’re still paying for it.)
This year we’re going to Estes Park, CO for a week with my parents, who are treating us to free lodging. Can’t beat that. :bananadance:
The Outer Banks is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go. Enjoy!

The one I’ve planned is four days in Reno, since I’m going there for the RWA signing.
I’m hoping to take a few days and go to a Shakespearean festival that’s about a four-hour drive away. This particular one does spectacular performances of the plays each summer. I’ll probably go in August.

Oooh, I’m very excited about our vacation next month. :bananadance: We’re driving out west. Stopping at Mt. Rushmore overnight, then heading on to Yellowstone for a week. My husband and son have been perusing video clips of geysers all week, and that little boy is uber-excited. Then again, so are my daughter and I.
On the drive back, we’re stopping by our property in Wyoming, just to look at it and dream. The drive’s gonna be horrendous, but I’m hoping to see lots of parts of the country that I’ve never seen before. :hyper:
And I’m taking lots of pictures.

Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada. I haven’t been on vacation for almost 3 years. Hubby is self-employed and he has been hopping for the last 3 years, getting away for any solid time is impossible. Also, even we can get the money together, we will be doing the kitchen remodel. My folks have a pool and my kids are just thrilled if they can swim everyday, that’s enough for them.

I just got back from holiday. :hyper:
We visited relatives, visited friends, shopped in London, stayed in a caravan, visited seaside towns and villages, visited historic sites and watched Cricket.
That do ya? :bananadance:

Anna, that sounds like a marvelous vacation! I’m jealous!
Amy, I love Estes park. It’s only about 45 minutes from us, but I never get up there as often as I’d like.
Sadly, our vacation plans consist of Reno, and that’s it. That whole starting a new business thing, totally takes away any vacation fund we might have thought of.
