The Little Cemetery In The Woods

My dad was four years old in 1929 when his father died. He wore a blue serge suit with a crisp white shirt and short pants to the funeral. He had to be held up to see into the casket. When it was done, his grandfather got down on one knee to look him in the eye and told him, “I’ll be your daddy now.”

Very touching. I was a child when we last made a trek to South Texas for delving into the past. It’s sad how our kids today don’t know what it is to have a grandparent living with them, next door or just down the road.

  8. Michelle says:

Ohhhh! I would have been bawling. 🙁
