I’m a farmer.

Check out the November issue of O Magazine, on stands now. Look at page 12, where there’s a bit about me and a photo (taken by Morgan!).

They identify me as Suzanne McMinn, Farmer. FARMER. It’s official. I am a farmer.

Oprah has spoken.

Then turn to page 119. November is the “advice” issue for O Magazine, and includes bits of “life-altering” wisdom from “experts” such as writer Anne Lamott and comedian Margaret Cho, along with a whole slew of pastors, philosophers, poets, Pulitzer Prize winners, and psychotherapists (who probably are real experts). And me. The farmer. I got a whole page and a book plug for the donation of my (questionably) life-altering wisdom.

Let me know if you see it! Or if you have any life mysteries that require an expert! I’m an expert!!!!!

Or not.

Never mind.

We’ve all known you were an official farmer long before the latest edition of O Magazine! I wonder why she didn’t identify you as WRITER/FARMER?
I just finished your book, and I was so sad to come to the end! GREAT READ!! I hope you write the next book from Sassafras Farm onward!

  2. whaledancer says:

And now when Morgan is a famous photographer, she can say she had her first photo published in a national magazine when she was still in high school. :shimmy:

  3. jodiezoeller says:

I’ll go right out and get Oprah’s magazine tomorrow. All ready tucked in for the day here. To make cold state people jealous I’ll say that we’re about to go out and light a fire in the grill and grill steaks. Not from cows we raised, we don’t roll that we here in the Dallas suburbs LOL!

  4. rkaiser says:

Your book was in my mail box Thursday evening and I just finished reading it – could not put it down! I agree with everyone else who said they hated it to end – can’t wait for your next one!!! Congratulations Suzanne, I think you have a winner here!

  5. BuckeyeGirl says:

I have a ton of life mysteries that require an expert! Let’s pour us a glass of wine and discuss them all! 8) I didn’t need Oprah to tell me you’re awesome, but it’s very cool that she’s onto such a good thing. Very exciting Suzanne! :dancingmonster:

  6. MousE says:

    May I have your autograph??

    😆

Congratulations, that’s some heady company! I’m so happy for you, Suzanne!

  7. MousE says:

    And Morgan?

    GREAT JOB KIDDO. :snoopy:

  8. bonita says:

Hmm a Farmer with a listing in the Library of Congress. . . curiously diverse and absolutely wonderful!

  9. boydsbearcatlover says:

Suzanne I just finished reading your book last night and I loved it!I can relate to a lot of things in the book and know I am not the only one going through things like this.I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for sharing your life!

  10. Old Geezer says:

Read this POST in Oprah’s voice:

“Everyone reading this thread, look under your chair. See that piece of paper? Get it and read it.

    YOU’VE WON A COW!

    AND YOU’VE WON A COW!

    AND YOU’VE WON A COW!

    EVERYONE HAS WON A COW!

Take your paper to the nearest cow store. EVERYONE WINS A COW!”

  11. CATRAY44 says:

Haha, Geezer! That was a great visual! (I would love to win a cow!)

  12. Cousin Mark says:

I do not think O magazine is an accredited agriculture college to bequest the title “Farmer” just yet . I believe that you are still a neophyte farmer…… you are still learning. I will still try to gently guide you with agricultural wisdom with training…..Free animals are not really free….. Critters with no production of food or fiber are pets….Horses are antique farm implements, some should be in museums for display…. Do you rather go to a feed store or hardware than the mall? Do you review neighbors herd and garden for quality? Do you hate the idiot who brought multiflora rose and autumn olive to WV???
Then you are closer to a card carrying farmer. Mark

  13. holstein woman says:

I just finished reading your book except for the recipes. I have cried with you and wanted to choke 52 every time he yelled at your or ranted. MEN.
I laughed when I looked at the post from O magazine. Look at what all of those other women have to go through to be as beautiful as a farm woman. I’m sure we all know you have a lot to learn yet, but considering you could’t tell if Glory Bee was bull or heifer and now you can not only tell the sex, you can fix the fence and keep them in I think you are “Quite a farmer”. I have to tell you I really adore you, I think you can do ANYTHING you want to.

  14. holstein woman says:

P.S. I thought you might tell us Stringtown Rising had sold. That would be a fitting end to the book.

  15. margiesbooboo says:

    :moo: making clover proud!

  16. Glenda says:

Anything Oprah touches turns to gold. It should really give sales a boost!

Cousin Mark you said it very well! Especially that part about the animals. If it costs me money on my farm and has zero return, it is gone.

Now the odd cat (or (as in our case) lots of odd cats and a dog or two as pets is one thing…….all that other is something else again.

  17. bonita says:

The animals at Stringtown Rising, and now Sassafras Farm, have generated a return on investment. In addition to providing a context for the writer’s memoir, the animals act as a public relations crew bringing attention to the writer. They have earned their kibble, scratch, and hay.
