Pieces of My Broken Heart

Feb
26

I stumbled across these photographs from last spring as I was searching through my picture files for something to go with my column on Monday for the Charleston Daily Mail.

My heart fell into a million painful pieces on this cold and snowy day.

It was as if I had worked so hard, and for so long, to recover from a tormenting loss, and suddenly, unexpectedly, across a crowded room, the people parted and my long-lost lover appeared.

And then the crowd moved again and he was gone. But it was too late. Everything I had done to forget him was destroyed and all I could do was burst into tears and wonder…..

…..if he had ever been real at all.

Nothing like digging into the archives to bring back memories. Spring will come again….this much we’re sure of!
Thanks for the beautiful color on this day of snowy outdoor scenery here in upstate NY. We’re cleaning up in the aftermath of the big storm. I had to wade through very deep snow to get to the barn this morning. It was half way up my calves. Our snowfall has been gentle up to now so I guess we were due to have our turn!
The bright sunshine is making it truly a winter wonderland this morning. :sun:

Such beautiful scenery, don’t you just long for spring?

  3. Maery Rose says:

Boy, I sure am familiar with the question of whether it was ever real at all. More than likely it was but that doesn’t seem to help ease the hurt. Hopefully, spring is going to brighten things up some.

I not only long for spring, but for my childhood days that these photos bring back to mind. I spent a few weeks at my uncle and aunt’s in Oregon when I was about 7 years old, and I still vividly remember the wildflowers in the woods there. The bluebells were my favorites. That was the year I learned to crochet. She was so patient in showing me (and my sister) and I love to tell her all about my latest project. And, all because showed me how to makes knots in string……
Wow! I think I will give her a call.

So beautifully written. Without the pictures to remind us its difficult to believe that spring ever existed. – Just discovered your blog and glad that I did. Cheers ~ Conny

…and now I am longing for the sweet caress of Spring’s gentle breeze and the fragrance of the mint in loamy undergrowth. Sigh….

Ah. Take consolation in this thought . . . somewhere in the hot, humid, and murky depths of summer, when the dogs days of summer are even too much for the dogs, when the skies are hazy from heat and humidity, and it’s too hot to even complain about how hot it is, you’ll stumble across some pictures from this winter . . . when the snow was pristine, crisp, and cold and the air was clear and mosquitoes were non-existent . . . and you’ll miss it! 🙂

    He’s real…AND he’ll be back!

Oh, thank you for this! (as I close the curtains to the latest of the outdoor weather…….)

Hang in there. Spring is just around the corner. Little sprouts of tulips and other bulb plants are peaking up through the cold earth in middle Tennessee. It’s moving in your direction.

Suzanne you sure write pretty words…….

“It was as if I had worked so hard, and for so long, to recover from a tormenting loss, and suddenly, unexpectedly, across a crowded room, the people parted and my long-lost lover appeared.
And then the crowd moved again and he was gone. But it was too late. Everything I had done to forget him was destroyed and all I could do was burst into tears and wonder……if he had ever been real at all.”

    It’s like poetry

Well, for just a sec I thought you might be talking about 52 instead of Spring. We are all feeling that Spring has forsaken us.

  24. Aedrielle says:

Here in Seattle, it’s been 65 and sunny for the better part of a week! (A little rainy today, but that keeps it GREEN!)
Spring has arrived early this year, we’ve got daffodils in bloom and trees budding. Crazy!

I got my book from you today! I can’t wait to start reading it! 🙂

    Thanks, Suzanne!!

  25. YayaOrchid says:

We are talking about a guy right? Or are we merely remembering Spring? Cause Spring comes every year, no worries Suzanne. It’ll be along shortly.

  26. princessvanessa says:

RosieJo—When I read the header “Pieces of My Broken Heart” I, too, thought for a few moments that there had been a parting of ways between 52 and you, Suzanne. Whew, glad that it is only spring with its greenery and flowers that you are longing after. With any luck at all, spring is just around the corner. Stay strong.

March is Monday and known for the Full Worm Moon.
The Full Worm Moon means the ground softens and the earthworm casts reappear~~inviting the return of the robins…
Also may be known as The Full Sap Moon~~marking the time of tapping maple trees for wonderful Sap for Syrup!!
Either way~~ No matter what you call it
    Spring Is Near

    Oh, Suzanne… I’m so sorry for your loss. I have moments like this, too, sometimes, when the pain suddenly rears its head so vividly and all the soothing and burying and coping I’ve done for five years means nothing. {{hug}}
