I have two big boxes of tomatoes. I’m canning. I may never be seen or heard from again.

However, other possibilities may exist to explain my fate.

Dateline: Stringtown, West Virginia.

WOMAN VANISHES AFTER RECEIVING TOMATOES

A farmer disappeared after taking two boxes of tomatoes into her Stringtown kitchen on Saturday. The tomatoes were intended for canning, though there was some disagreement about their best use. According to a source inside Stringtown Rising Farm, the last time the woman was seen, she was being followed by chickens.

An investigation is underway as the search continues. A representative for the chickens told the media: “We love the woman. She gave us two pumpkins. Her disappearance leaves a huge hole in our lives, but it’s not one we pecked ourselves.”

Fowl play is suspected in the case.

In CA it was reported there was a sighting of the Stringtown woman who had disappeared, after bringing tomatoes into her home. She was canning a batch of Salsa. I think that this is gong on all over the country. Be on the lookout. The chickens know. Can’t help smiling!

Oh my! I love tomatoes! I love chickens! What would I do in this situation? . . . . split the tomatoes between the chickens and canning . . . . . or not! I’d give the chickens the stems and skins . . . be safe out there – we don’t want you to be the victim of a chicken revolution!

Susanne, you have got to try Tomatoe Rasberry Spread!!!I got it from Taste of Home. When I went to the Amish country ,they had samples of tomatoe jam ?! It was good so when I got home ,I checked out my books and there it was!Although ,I don’t think they used this one ,it was close. Will leave recipe on Farm bell .I hope you try it !!

Oh My Goodness! My hubby would go nuts making roasted salsa with all those ‘maters. We can salsa every year for Christmas gifts. RIck Bayless’s recipe for roasted tomato & garlic salsa is fantastic. Hubby roasts EVERYTHING in the salsa under the broiler before chopping it up into the recipe. Mmmm, good salsa!

Have fun with those ‘maters! What out for those wiley chickens!!

Our dog developed a taste for tomatoes this year – even climbing into our fenced raised bed. I think she’s eaten more than we have! We’ll have to rethink our garden plan next year. :-)

Ahh…. canning tomatoes. Buried in tomato skins, lemon juice (mustn’t forget that!) and hot water. Oh, and salt. Mustn’t forget salt.

Oh! Do I see a hand poking out from the depths of skins? Quick.. pull it out. Take skins to chickens. They will love them.

Fabuous looking tomatoes!!!! My husband always plants some but only likes them raw. He doesn’t like tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, or even catsup! He loves tomato sandwiches (you can’t live in the South w/o loving tomato sandwiches). And of course, loves fried green tomatoes. But his crop wasn’t very good this year as we had a terrible drought here. Then the deer got to them (in spite of the tomato cages). Oh well, I’ll just enjoy them thru you this winter. Lucky you!!
