I'm Sure It Was a Very Important Episode

This is an old picture of Morgan, but I can’t upload a new picture of her right now. Or a new picture of anything. You see, Morgan downloaded an entire TV show on her laptop. Anyone who has satellite internet understands when I say that I’m just lucky they didn’t come pull the dish out of the ground and march off with it. It was an egregious crime against the fair use policy and allowable bandwidth per customer. It’s something of a minor miracle that I have operated a business based primarily on the internet for the past few years–when I have satellite internet (and teenagers). When I started CITR, I started it ON DIALUP. (And that was only four years ago. I was living in the country, what can I say, satellite internet is all that is available and back then it was even more expensive than it is now.)

I will be back with new photos and stories when the ban against our account is released and I’m done spanking Morgan.

Aaahhh the power of kids!! Dont get her too bad…I have always found that good hard work makes someone think of that they did and why not to do it again…dont you have some water that needs to be brought up?!? (Even if you dont its good hard work) OOOHHHH dig a ditch!!!! Isnt that what your cousin did to you to help not think about the lack of water?

As a person who tries to conduct an internet business in one of the wild, wonderful and wired (phone only – no cable, no dsl, no wi-fi) rural areas of WV, I feel your pain. I tried dial up for a couple years. Painful,slow, frustrating and unacceptable. The word I heard from neighbors, was that Bluey & Hughey (satellite) were faster, sometimes. Expensive, always. And downright intermittent. I resigned myself to affordable, dependable albeit archaic dial-up. Until…I got my smart a@@ phone. Now I will readily admit to it being way smarter than I am, but I have managed to tether my phone and use it as a wireless router to connect my equally archaic computer to the internet. What once took me 15-45 minutes to do, now takes a few minutes at most. You might consider tethering, I am a convert. I have 5g a month and have yet to use half that much. No tv episodes though.

I don’t see how anyone could do anything online with dial up anymore. That’s how we started out too in our rural area. Now with three desk tops, a laptop, a net book & X Box Live in the house (for 3 people!!! – I live with two technos) we at least have high speed wireless through our phone company. Although we pay 3 times more than people less than five miles away because of where we live.

My son says we’re still in the dark ages & we have to RATION band width. If someone plays Live, everyone else knows not to watch videos or listen to the radio online. We warn each other if we want to download something. Oh the trials of modern life. ;o)

We live out in the boonies too. We were resigned to getting satilite internet and the restrictions it brought with it until the day the guy was supposed to come a neighbor said “why not use that antena internet?” We had no idea what they were talking about until we did some investigating. It is LITERALLY an antena that uses cell phone tower wifi. We have very speedy, very unlimited (we watch netflix constantly), and very much cheaper than hughes net internet. I”m not sure if you have a company around there but ours is called Arbuckle online. If you don’t have one yet, they may be popping up soon!!!!

I’m sure this isn’t helpful, but for the laugh factor alone (and probably only because my “teens” are now actually in their 20′s and married with children of their own) it was totally worth it!! LOL!

Oh no! I feel your pain. Ds maxed us out one time by listening to Pandora! My biggest con about living out in the country is the internet connection. How I miss Netflix Instant Play!

Ouch! I use dial-up (26kbps)in rural WV to maintain my two websites and blog and have thought about Hughes but keep hoping for something better. Not likely though :-(

I hope they lift your restrictions soon.

Have a friend in Florida that is on Satellite. Have to be careful what and how much you download. Such is life in the country.

Sorry, I’m over here chuckling at your conundrum. My folks in the Northern Panhandle of WV (which, by the way, should be called upstate WV…sounds classy, like upstate NY haha), anyway we had dial up until long after I moved out (doing college homework on the dial up…so painful)! Mom and dad got satellite internet last year, and quickly discovered that was one of the terrible pitfalls after downloading too many games for the grandkids to play. Oh well, I wouldnt trade living in the country for fast reliable internet, but it is one of the (only) nice perks of living in town!

LOL. OH my life with teens never a dull moment. We are thinking of upgrading our cable and internet because of speed and not enough channels. Or rather channels moving to the next level. :( Not nice.

We operate 3 desktop computers, 3 lap tops, a ipad, ipod and probably something else I am not aware off. Got cable internet that is ok but when we all are on line at the same time you do notice how slow things get.

Dont feel bad I have a 17 year old who downloads shows she wants to watch. I am wondering why I pay money for cable tv??

I was sitting here chuckling…smug that all my kids have flown the coop. Until I rememered the grandkids use my computer every Sunday. Then I have to overhaul everything on Monday! Some of those games he downloads can really slow things down!
Oh well, in a few years Morgan will be in college and you’ll be missing her like you do the boys. However, dont let her get off too easy ;-)

… yes there is still good ole dial up in this modern techno age..we call our local phone service for dsl every few weeks, figure if we bug them enough times they may cave into our area.. ha ha.. I am sitting here laughing out loud in hopes I didn’t wake my hubby.. my teens are all grown now and also flew the coop..I love reading your posts.. you are a part of my day..life is an adventure, so glad I can be apart of yours..

We have a dear friend that has simular problems with their Son had a downloading “problem”. I am the only one using my computer, and I download as little as possible, nothing for entertainment purposes at all.
We got our bill yesterday–went up $20. EVERTHING is expensive now days!

Are you kidding me? Morgan knows the situation. She knows that the food on her table and the clothes on her back is directly connected to that satellite connection. No connection, no horse!

Hope this is not a repeat post. My satellite provider has a way to “Buy” yourself back to normal speeds when this happens. And they give you a free token every month so you can even do this without having to pay them more money (although you can buy these tokens too if you are a frequent offender). Check too to see if there is a time window in the early am when you can download without affecting your allotment. I have hughesnet. They may not be as fast as cable (which does not come all the way out here), but they are a lot better than dialup.

Just another reminder for all you folks out there who think their only option is Satellite internet. Look up wireless internet in your area. These small companies are popping up all over in the country areas. If you can get cell reception at all from your home, you may have a company that can boost the signal and get you antenna internet. We have it and it works wonderfully and is truly unlimited. We don’t even get tv signal or cable but we can get this. Netflix is our only form of tv out here and I have three kids so we use A LOT of netflix, hulu, amazon, and youtube with no problems.

Also, I thought Morgan had a nose piercing in that picture. Turns out it was just a piece of fuzz on my screen! She would look cute with a nose ring though!
