Winter time is not high canning season. There’s no garden coming in. No bursting farmers markets. No neighbors dumping zucchini on your porch. However! Winter is a fabulous time for canning those things you don’t have time to can in high canning season. A great time to make big batches of soups and chilis and put them away for busy days.
Here are a few of the winter-time canning recipes that can be found on Farm Bell Recipes:
Chili for a Crowd
Black Bean Soup
Hamburger Stroganoff
Corned Beef Hash
Bean and Bacon Soup
See all the Preserving recipes on Farm Bell Recipes.
And just in case you hadn’t noticed, I’m also giving away a pressure canner here today!

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

I was watching Edwardian Farm on YouTube the other day and came across something that might be useful for Glory Bee, or at least future calves … This video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdfpVu3y5KU&feature=BF&list=PLEF072B4A10A84D2D&index=33 about 13 minutes in, they’re doing their first milking and you can see that the calf has a muzzle on. They don’t actually talk about it, but it makes sense that then it can stay with its mother overnight but can’t nurse, so the cow has a full udder in the morning. Then you just take the muzzle off and the calf can eat all day.

However…..when I try to add a recipe it says I have to register. I am registered, but I go along with it. I ask for a new password…says I am not registered. I try to register again and it says I am already registered. I have showered. I am not offending. I love the goat baby. I cannot win if I cannot get into the recipe area. Grrrrr
