If you’ve been reading my website for more than, say, two minutes, you probably know by now that the stories I’ve shared with you here about my first years farming in West Virginia–raising chickens, milking a stubborn cow, and learning to make cheese and fire and goat cookies have become the inspiration for a book! Chickens in the Road: An Adventure in Ordinary Splendor is the wild and juicy memoir of my life at Stringtown Rising Farm. (Cows, cookies, high water, and love!) What more could you ask for? Well, you could ask for one more thing–a copy!
You can pre-order the book now and have it in your hands on October 8th.

The book bares all for the seasoned CITR reader and the brand new alike, and let me tell you, some parts were hard for me to write as I went behind the scenes to tell you the whole story. I’ve always kept a curtain closed on my blog to my private life. This book is the whole story, the real story, how and why things happened, filling in the gaps between the stories I always shared here. In the book, you’ll find it all–the secrets, the disasters, the fears, and the motivations that inspired me to make everything sound so funny, just so I could survive it.
This book is dedicated with love and gratitude to each and every one of you who have been here with me at Chickens in the Road. You carried me through this journey on your wings of unflagging support and encouragement, and I needed you more than you ever realized. This book is for you, with the whole truth you deserve. Thank you, always, just for being here.
Please pre-order it today (pre-order links above)–I can’t WAIT to hear what you think!

Ordered mine yesterday. Can’t wait to read it. I have been reading and enjoying Suzanne’s blog since she lived in the “Slanted Little House.” I don’t think she signed up for the ‘hand’ she got dealt, but, I think she is happy now,and I am happy for her. :ladybug:

Ah, the wait is nearly over! Several copies pre-ordered for the winter gift-giving (as well as for myself). I’ve been reading since “Princess” turned 11 (and you were BFF with Nora Roberts ;)). Been inspired a lot along the way and always wanting to share your CITR story with some relatives and friends who don’t have/don’t do internet. So happy I’ll soon be able to do that.

Preordered. I know you went through a tough time with the number which shall not be named. Even though things were rough, 2011 Retreat was the BEST and changed my life. You did a fabulous job as always. Can’t wait to get the book.

I can’t wait to read the juice! Which is so weird to say. I’ve never met you in my life and yet I’ve been into 8 or 9 years of your life because of this blog. So strange! I think being a fan and a stalker falls on a thin line. I’m not a stalker… so I must be a fan. But… that’s even stranger to say. I’m a fan of someone else’s life? That’s ridiculous. Okay… inspired by! That’s better. I feel much less creepy. Oh good. I’ve already started rambling.
Either way, I live way the hell up in western Canada but my cousin lives in VA so I may just have to ship my copy of your book to her and have her go to one of your signings in west VA. That would be really exciting. So I can’t wait to see where your locations will be. =D!!
Thank you for posting your life online. The humor in it adds a little spice to my own exciting world.
And your recipes are great. =D

Pre-ordered mine too. I have been reading this blog since the slanted house days. How long ago has that been? I really enjoy all the recipes and things Suzanne has done and made here on this blog and shared with us. I made the bagels last weekend and got rave reviews! That’s why I come to this blog every single morning when I wake up!
