There are three bedrooms in this little house, though I enjoy taking retreat attendees on house tours and showing them how there were once five bedrooms in this 1300 square foot house. The area downstairs that I use as a dining room was once walled off to be a downstairs bedroom. Upstairs, there was the room that I use now as the master bedroom, the room that is Morgan’s, an upstairs bathroom and closet that once was combined as a bedroom, and the room that I call the little room. The “little room” is 6′ x 12′ and has no closet. I’ve used it mostly as a storage room, though it had a very old and uncomfortable trundle bed in it where the boys and occasionally a guest would stay.
You can get a sense of how small it is looking at the other end of the room–which is only a few feet past the end of the bed.
I started cleaning it out a few months ago, so the above photos don’t show how junky it really was, and just embarrassing to offer to a guest. Since then, I’ve been working on it, and this week Morgan helped me paint it a fresh and lighter shade of green that really brightens the room.
I also got a lamp–there is no overhead lighting in that room, just one small wall light.
Isn’t that lamp adorable?
It’s called “birds and berries” and I ordered it from Amazon. (You can find it here). Also, I replaced the red plastic tote serving as night table with this cute little chest.
It’s a narrow five-drawer chest with a distressed finish. Because I love home delivery, I also got it from Amazon. (Find it here).
I have a new twin bed coming soon, and a chest and storage cabinet. I think the next time retreat teachers, friends, or my boys come to stay, they will be much happier! I’ll update as I progress fixing up the room. I’m trying to make the most storage out of the least space–and make it deliciously adorable. The furniture is all white to help keep the room bright. I like it so far!

I think it’s easy to let areas of the house go when we have no real purpose for them. It seems like you’re starting to give your living space more thought and making it more functional. I loved your little “hanging out” area in the cellar. It was very fun and hospitable looking. And now this adorable bedroom! It may be long and narrow but it has charm. I always think it takes time living in a space, to know how it might function best.

You did good and I love the lamp! The little chest is the perfect size. I hate small rooms and boy is this ever small. Just so darn hard to clean and I’m claustrophobic! I do wonder though, would it make it seem a bit larger if you reversed it? Switch places with bed and chest? Maybe it’d give the illusion of being a bit larger facing the window?

As soon as I hit ‘submit’ I realized you have that corner jutting out so you can’t reverse the bed or the chest would stick out from the wall on that end. Sorry!
