Goats are noisy sometimes. Most of the time, they are so quiet I have to look for them to make sure they’re okay. Other times, they can make quite a racket. They sound very sheep-like. Baaa-aaaa. When Clover first arrived, she bleated almost nonstop for several days, calling her friends back at her old farm. After I was gone for a few nights this weekend, she and the babies bleated quite a bit when I came back. They wanted me to know that they missed me. Or they wanted cookies now that the Cookie Lady was back…..

And so yesterday afternoon when Clover started up a racket, I didn’t pay much heed for a few minutes because she’d been bleating more since I’d gotten back, begging for my attention.

Then I realized the racket was much closer than just down in the goat yard.

And I remembered the other reason my goats start up a racket.

Nutmeg-the-Escape-Artist was bleating down my door while Clover was down in the yard bawling over it.

Uh, what you doing, Nutmeg? Are you coming in?

Oh. Well. Okay………

Spice, somewhat astounded.

Wanna watch TV, Nutmeg? What do you want to watch? News, soap operas, home remodelling?

Why am I letting you in my house? Have I lost my mind?

Sorry…… I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings!!

COCO!!!! About time you showed up. DO SOMETHING.

Let’s get this baby down the stairs.

BITING HER NECK DOESN’T HELP, COCO!!

Come on, Nutmeg!

You can do it!

What a good girl!

Now get back where you belong!

Whew.

You’re tired, too, aren’t you Clover? This was a lot of excitement, huh? We handled it! We’re bonding, aren’t we? That Nutmeg, she is so much trouble. Me and you, we’re a team. Like rubber and the road. Mac and cheese. Gladys and the Pips–

You don’t really like me, do you, Clover?

Do you want to come upstairs and watch TV?

  4. Becky says:

Great post, Suzanne! Love the series. I would have let her in too!

  5. Lisa says:

Do I see nubs growing on Honey again?

  6. Shari C says:

I guess Nutmeg was just being friendly and wanted to come up and visit and see what you were up to. Life is certainly never dull around your place, is it…ha,ha.

  7. Suzanne McMinn says:

Lisa, we never did burn his horns the third time. I didn’t have the heart for it!

  8. hayseed says:

aw, clover loves you!…by the way, I have always secretly wanted to let my horse into the house (but I won’t be doing it)

  9. Elcie says:

Letting ’em in for a look’s the first step. Next thing you know, they’ll be SLEEPING IN YOUR HOUSE.

  10. Kayis says:

Wow, that Nutmeg is something else! Too cute, I love it!!!

  11. Granny Sue says:

How funny! I remember when we had goats that Rebecca, a Nubian, came up on our deck and into the house. I chased her out but she came back in another door–so round and round we went, with her in the lead.

I loved my goats, but could not keep them in their fence at first–they ate all the fruit trees I had planted, my roses, grapes…finally we had some that knew what a fence was for and stayed inside it. Eventually we switched to Jersey cows because 4 growing boys took a lot of milk and I wanted to make butter, which is not as easy with goat milk. Now we have neither cows or goats, and I miss them. There is nothing quite like Jersey cream…

  12. Claudia W. says:

I’ve had them all in my house at one time or another…goats, sheep, turkeys, chickens, ducks. Never brought my horse in though, I thought that would be a little too destructive. Hey, we see where they live, I think turn about is fair play!

  13. Donna says:

Oh My gosh, that was THE CUTEST thing in the world – little Nutmeg at your door. Little “Nosey Nate”!!!! LOLLOL Coco to the RESCUE…to to just play. LOL
THat is so adorable…they all want to come in the house, rather than stay on the farm. Ha! Too PRECIOUS! :treehugger:

  14. Annie says:

My sister has two Boer wethers who escape their pen pretty often. They love people so much that they broke through her screen door so they could come in the house. She then put up one of those screen door shields for pets, but they just hopped right over it, through the screen door. My sister is not happy with her goats.

  15. Jill S. says:

Aw!!! So … did she poop in your house?

  16. MARY says:

 Well, Suzanne, they obviously want their own room!! Preferably downstairs, with an outdoor theme!! How could you not know this!!!!!????? :elephant: They are adorable!!! I’d let them in too!!! :butterfly:

  17. Crystal B. says:

    How cute. 🙂

  18. Jodie says:

Nutmeg knows that it’s time to come inside for the winter! I’m sure Coco will lead the herd upstairs to the warm house.

  19. TeresaH says:

I think Clover sent Nutmeg on an information gathering mission…beware! Once Clover has time to take what she learned to spartacus you’ll be lucky to have anything left unchewed on in your home when they sneak in there one day while you are gone…then again, maybe nutmeg was just looking for the bathroom.

  20. Nancy in Atlanta says:

Love this post, the marvelous photos, and the amazing comments by the other posters! Nutmeg really is a sweetie, and she would certainly be welcome in my apt.! You’ve all probably seen the video of the horse that rides in a car, goes inside the house, sleeps in a bed….you should put Nutmeg up on YouTube and make her really famous! Maybe that’s what she wants? :catmeow:

  21. Amy Addison says:

    :rotfl:

You are so going to have to keep your eye on that girl.

So, did Coco teach Nutmeg how to go up and down the stairs?

  22. Maureen says:

Not too many people can say they’ve had a goat in their house.

  23. jean says:

The photo of the cat was perfect. Great job. And Coco is always perfection.

  24. Kim W says:

Don’t you just love to watch those little animals when you let them in the house for a few (VERY FEW) minutes? They seem to look around in awe and leave with the aire of “mystery solved! Hey guys! I’ve seen where they go behind the door!” :snoopy: :sheepjump:

    Cute.

Hey…come to my blog and see my “yearbook” pictures. It’ a hoot! It will be your big laugh of the day.

    Blessings from Ohio…

  25. Peggy says:

    How funny! Good job, Coco.

  26. Susan says:

I am surprised you haven’t had all three of them in your house before this. Clover really does love you, she just likes to play head games with you too. :sheepjump:

  27. DeeBee says:

That’s so funny. I love the reaction of Spice. Spice was probably thinking you were crazy for letting an animal in the house… cause you know cats… they aren’t animals. They are special.

  28. Estella says:

If I need a smile I can count on your blog.
Those goats are always good for a story.

  29. catslady says:

She was looking for the cookie stash! Next time put on an old rerun of Green Acres lol.

  30. Christine says:

The look on the cat’s face is PRICELESS! LOL

  31. IowaCowgirl says:

Nutmeg is just doing what comes naturally…Eunice my Saanen doe used to come in the house, once in a while leaving a few chocolate chips for me, but hey, Clover needs a bit of therapy…

And Hayseed, my neighbor rode my horse into a bar once. My horse didn’t drink, so he didn’t order a thing.

  32. Jaymi B. says:

Suzanne, I am telling you. …you bring such fun into my house. My daughter (10) comes home every day asking me what’s going on at your place. She looooves the animal stories. With your captions and story telling it makes it easy for me to have instant bedtime stories. When I was reading this one, my husband muted HIS BASEBALL GAME! I never thought in a million years my hubby would mute his play-off game to hear a story about a goat. I LOVE IT! Thanks a bunch.

  33. SuzieQ says:

Did you consider that she had been sent on a mission by Clover to discover where the cookies come from? Maybe Clover just has Nutmeg scoping out the land for the upcoming “real assault” to retrieve cookies!! :hungry:

  34. Mokihana says:

:sheepjump: Too too funny!! Kinda reminds me of the times we’ve transported sheep in our minivan!

  35. Rooth says:

Can you litter train a goat?

  36. Lisabeth Olson says:

Yup that reminds me of the time we transported 4 calves in the Bronco. The things you do.
Absolutely wonderful Suzanne. :fairy: :woof: :sheepjump:
