There came a Summer from Fairy-land…

…..who carried joe-pye weed….

….in her hand.
IMG_8658-1
The thistles leapt after….
IMG_8678-1
….wherever she trod….
IMG_8791
….and ironweed….
IMG_8632
….and daisies….
IMG_8759
….danced on the sod.
IMG_8631
Her locks were Queen Anne’s Lace….
IMG_8651
….with jewelweed for her nose;
IMG_8785
Her breath was the breeze, she’d moss for her toes;
IMG_8776
Her eyes were blue skies, her lips berry flame,
IMG_8782
Her voice was the stream….
IMG_8751
….and Summer was her name.

P.S. Take a drive in the country this weekend to see Summer strutting her stuff….

….before she’s all gone!

Thanks for another uplift this morning..

  2. Bev says:

What an absolutely delightful way to describe summer!

  3. Jim Boivin says:

We just might have to take a drive! My brother (the photographer) and I are descending upon Spencer and Newton to visit from NH for a family reunion o’er labor day. But all your photos remind me of visiting Grandpa’s farm as a kid, with all the lush grass (time to mow) and the gradual (i.e. vertical) slopes of the hills. Thanks for sharing your reality on the web.

    – Jim

That was truly lovely. Thank you.

  5. Lynda Dunham-Watkins says:

Lovely! It’ll soon be gone. What a wonderful place in which we live.

  6. Carol Ann says:

Thanks for the lovely photos, Suzanne. Your reflections mirror my feelings as well on this summer. It was so long in coming and now it doesn’t seem possible that these few short weeks of warmth and sun will soon be coming to a close, making way for the Fall.

  7. Claudia W says:

Wow! Truely beautiful. Thanks for the walk down Summer Lane.

  8. SHIRLEY T SHELLEY says:

I have an abundance of Queen Anns Lace. Have you tried making jelley with it? I have not, but I heard that it is pretty good jelly. love your blog.

  9. Miss Becky says:

Summer bid it’s farewell for these parts, with highs in the 50’s and lows in 40’s. I have one tomato that is almost ripe, and that is all for this year. One tomato. Your photos are delightful. thanks for the trip Suzanne. :butterfly:

  10. Corinne Rasso says:

What a lovely thing to read this morning….especially since we have gotten about 6 inches of rain in the last two days and all I see when I look out the window is my soggy sheep : (.

  11. .Nancy in Iowa says:

    Beautiful! Thank you.

  12. Terry Owen says:

Suzanne, your pictures remind me of flower vases in the homes of my grandmothers during this time of year during years gone by . . . Joe Pye, Ironweed, Goldenrod and Queen Anne’s Lace make a fantastic end of summer celebration in a vase. And Queen Anne’s Lace can be a real treat for children. If you place food coloring in the water, you can have Queen Anne’s Lace in any color you want overnight.

  13. Barbara says:

Beautiful, Suzanne! I remember those Eastern beauties. None of that here in LA, the asphalt jungle. You have to drive a long way to find a tree that looks like that one. It almost looks like it belongs in an illustration of a Merlin tree! Beautiful.

  14. Gloria says:

Beautiful pictures..I drove past Walton on to Spencer twice this week from Pinch..the scenery is simply awsome..

  15. catslady says:

Gorgeous pictures I have a hillside that I usually let take it’s on path (much to my neighbor’s dismay) but we love the wild look and weeds are so called only because they tend to take over but I think they are beautiful. (except the #%@&$# poison ivy).

  16. B. Ruth says:

    Beautiful….
    I love weeds….I love wildflowers……

A wildflower is a weed in its proper place and time…
A weed is a wildflower in the wrong place and time…

    PS…but a “chigger”….is found in unreachable places unknown….ask me how I know….
    love, bumpy B.Ruth

TOO LATE!!! In hot old Houston, those pictures would represent our early spring (like March!) By now, we’re all dried up and scorched looking by way too many days over 100! – counting the days till the nights will have lows in the 70s.
    Enjoy your wonderful weather!!

  18. Kim W says:

    Simply lovely. :snuggle:

    Blessings from Ohio…

  19. Estella says:

    Lovely pics!
    It is raining here today.

  20. Kacey says:

Love the flower pics, but then I seem to be addicted to taking photos of flowers this summer. You know, in between rain storms…

  21. maryann says:

Did you know that jewelweed is a natural remedy to poison ivy?

  22. LiveLaughLoveCj says:

I loved the photos. Made me want to just reach out and breathe in deeply the scent of summer. Here her whisper by the streams, feel the breeze upon my face. *sigh* lovely.
