Being My Child

Dec
24

I love to take pictures. I often takes hundreds of pictures a day. Which is why being my child means constantly having your picture taken.

I don’t love sports. At all. I love my kids, though, and my kids love sports. I spend a lot of time watching their sports. And being bored. She’s not bored. She’s intense. (Photos taken during the girls middle school basketball game, Walton vs. Wirt County, last week.)
IMG_8985
She totally knows what’s going on, too. I don’t know what’s going on.
IMG_8965
Like, when for whatever reason, they have one of the girls throw the ball in from the sideline, it’s always Morgan. See, here she is doing it again.
IMG_9045
Why do they always have her do that? Is it so I can take her picture? At least she’s standing still. See what happens when I try to take her picture when she’s not standing still? I can’t do it.
IMG_9051
It never works out. I’m not a real photographer.
IMG_8959
I really like it when she sits down. Which she hardly ever does. She’s a starter and a very good athlete. Which is why she plays everything. I have to find some way to entertain myself. Because I’m bored and I don’t know what’s going on.
IMG_9008
Don’t move, girl sitting next to Morgan! Look, now you’ve done it, you have no hands!
IMG_9006
Now look how scared that girl is! She didn’t know the other school had ghosts on their team!
IMG_9005
Morgan’s spotted me.
IMG_9015
There’s no place to hide. She has to sit there. JUST LIKE I DO.
IMG_9014
She ponders the great burden of being my child. The only child on the team whose mother takes pictures of her during THE ENTIRE GAME.
IMG_9010
Do you SEE that look she’s giving me?!
IMG_9012
Maybe she can hide behind her friend.
IMG_9018
Now that is just plum ornery. She knows how I feel about her hair in her face.
IMG_9017
Resigned at last. I’ve worn her out.
IMG_9023
Okay, that was fun. Is basketball season over yet?

  1. Becky says:

    I love the look!!!

  2. IowaCowgirl says:

    That poor poor child…so abused….

Please put me in the drawing for the BBB.

    Merry Christmas!

  3. Angelia May says:

    Glad to see you!!!!!

You guys are too funny πŸ™‚

Made me laugh out loud – which is a bad thing – since it’s almost 1:30 and my granddaughters are asleep – Let’s not wake up 18-month-old twins!!!! LOL

You always make my day (or night)!

  4. Darlene in North Georgia says:

Lol, gotta love school sports. You’re a good mom to attend and be bored to death. Though, the life-time scars will remain, it’s the price she has to pay to play. Remember the athlete’s slogan: “no pain, no gain” applies here.

Besides, she’ll have something to remember those years by. My kids have very FEW pictures of themselves growing up. Either I couldn’t afford film and developing or the few times I did have film I’d forget to take the camera because – I couldn’t afford film and developing. The few rolls I did shoot were messed up by Walmart/CVS when I took them in to have them developed. sigh

I’d love to win the BBB.

  5. Ulrike says:

She shouldn’t hide. She’s absolutely gorgeous in some of those photos. The ones where she’s not moving or hiding, I mean.

    BBB, pretty please.

  6. Flatlander says:

You are taking pictures….I’m one of those knitting mothers to kill the time.
Have no clue what is going on …

Would love to win the book

  7. CindyP says:

Hahahahahaha!!! Why don’t they just learn they look much nicer if they just let you take their picture??? You’ll use the bad ones anyway!!!

And me thinks Suzanne needs a new lens for her camera — you know, one that does action shots??? hmmmm, 52? Morgan? Weston? Ross? πŸ˜‰

Thank you Myrna for sponsoring another BBB! I would love the BBB!

  8. Dru says:

That is too funny and yeah I would be bored at a basketball game too. That’s why I bring books with me when I attend sports events for relatives or friends.

    BBB

  9. Memoria says:

That was hilarious!!!! I love what you said about the girl not having hands and the ghosts. The expression on your daughter’s face when she spotted you was absolutely priceless!!! I would be the same way. πŸ™‚

  10. Maureen says:

I love the picture of the ghosts. It gave me a laugh this cold Christmas Eve morning. I just got a new camera last month and my children do not appreciate my constant picture taking so I have to focus my attention on the cats. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
    BBB

  11. WatkinsGal says:

Ah yes…..the kid’s sports….they do football, baseball, volleyball, softball and wrestling. They never got in to basketball, but I’m thinkin’ that I’d trade a girls basketball game for a Saturday wrestling match! ;o)

    Morgan is beautiful!

And, yes, put my name in for the BBB!

  12. Connie Trippett says:

That is great how you are always taking pictures. We own 3 digital cameras and cant take very good pictures but usually dont have to worry about it cause we forget to bring them along to events anyway.
    Have a Great Christmas everyone!!
Sign me up for the BBB.

  13. Kelly Walker says:

Glad to see that you are hooked back up with the internet world and your blog family. We missed you and I worried about you and your family both human and animal in all the snow with no electricity. I know you have the generator but it’s just not the same. Stay Warm. And keep all the babies warm! (BBB)

  14. Wendy says:

I played basketball in high school and I totally know what’s going on and enjoy a good game. Go Morgan!! :shimmy:

However, my son plays football – and I’m not a football fan. At all. I have no clue what’s going on. Bored out of my mind and usually freezing to death in the stands. But my son and Morgan will remember that their Mom was there, and that’s what’s important.

And, trust me, Morgan will love the photos when she’s 40 and would kill to have those thighs back.

  15. Julie Curtis says:

Did I sign up for the BBB??? I’m brain dead. Too much going on. I don’t remember. Anyway, if I didn’t, sign me up!

  16. Leah says:

Merry Christmas Eve Morning! BB is one of the few sports I like to watch. Morgan is a pretty girl. I cant get pictures of my lil grandaughter, she may as well be on a BB court!
I would like to win the BBB.

  17. Leisha says:

One day Morgan will be glad for all the pictures – I would love to have more of when I was young, wrinkle free you know when things were located in their original locations :hissyfit:
So glad you are back – you were truly missed !!
Merry Christmas Eve to you and all of yours – 2 and 4 legged :reindeer:

  18. quietstorm says:

yeah i get that look too….and the hair in the face…. she was just reading the post over my shoulder & I was like ‘SEE….. ITS NOT JUST ME…..’ must be the age 14/8th grade too…..

please enter me in the BBB give away….

    & just

  19. Bridget Byrd says:

I have only just managed to convince my two eldest children (and this through continued posting of pics featuring their rolling eyes, unfriendly snarls and assorted other unflattering expressions) that photo resistance is futile . . . they might as well smile pretty (or at least assume an indifferent expression) and be done with it! With my three youngest, the problem is not getting them in front of the camera, it’s getting them away from it. I imagine that they, too, will eventually turn on me . . . (BBB)

  20. quietstorm says:

& as I was saying just before the computer froze….

& just in case I dont get back here today MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

May Peace & Plenty be the first to lift the latch on your door and Happiness be guided to you house by the candle of Christmas.

  21. Agnes from Antigo says:

I’m retiring from my job after 13 years years on Dec. 31 and looking forward to having spare time to do things — like canning, maybe. So I could really use a BBB! Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  22. Johanna says:

Hmmm, “that look”. It’s just a guess, but where do you suppose she learned that look? Is there anything about the apple and the tree that sounds a little familiar??!!

  23. Cindy says:

We sports moms are quite inventive when it comes to keeping ourselves occupied during games. I’m a picture taking mom too, but I love to watch the game too. My kid plays baseball, so he doesn’t always see me lurking down first base line or behind the batter’s box with a camera attached to my face. After all is said and done, Morgan will appreciate all of the photos that you took and the fact that you were at her games cheering her on. Merry Christmas everyone!
P.S. Please enter me in the BBB drawing. Thanks Suzanne!

  24. Sandra says:

Suzanne, I feel your pain regarding having a child (or children) in sports and not knowing a thing about it. What fun that you have a way to entertain yourself while you are there. I would love to win the BBB. Thank you and also thanks to Myrna.
    Merry Christmas!

  25. kerri says:

I’m with you on the sports thing. I sat through many socca and baseball games and didn’t really know what was going on. Cold (socca) and bored! But it’s fun to watch the kids anyway :sun: especially with a camera in your hands πŸ˜† Those are great photos of Morgan. She’s a lovely girl. Such an expressive face…..much like her mom, I’m sure πŸ™‚
Christmas blessings to you and yours, including the animals, of course :chicken: xoxox
I’d love to win the BBB, thanks. Sounds wonderful!

  26. Anke says:

Ok, I don’t take as many pictures as you do, but every time I take one my kids ask “is this going on your blog?” Sometimes they are ok with it, other time they protest, A LOT.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I would love to be entered into the BBB drawing.

  27. Susan at Charm of the Carolines says:

Suzanne, I laughed out loud when I read your comment about the girl with no hands. You are hilarious, my friend! I didn’t know farmers could be funny. (BBB)

    Susan

  28. Patty says:

  29. Carmen Smith says:

LOL…maybe Morgan will grow up to be a photographer, or a model since she’s so used to being photographed:) Merry Christmas to you and your family and furbabies!!!!

  30. CityGirl says:

HAHA πŸ˜† those are hilarious, esp the no hands one. Really they’re great shots. I like the out of focus surroundings; it put more emphasis on the subject.

Morgan has a great profile, her face is maturing nicely. She’s a good sport about the camera. I would have beat you up…

  31. Paulette says:

I love your blog Suzanne, it’s my first read every morning.

I’d love to be entered in the BBB drawing.

  32. Snapper says:

    BBB Baby!
Merry Christmas to you and yours Suzanne. Thank you for a crafty, tasty, memorable year! πŸ™‚

  33. Diane says:

I thought I was the only one going to games to take pictures. lol My dd plays in the band. We end up sitting out in the cold sometimes during football season. ugg. I know it is hard to get the action shots. My dd notices too when I am taking pictures of her. lol.. I love the zoom on my camera I can sneek in a few shots before she notices. lol.

Would love love the blue ball book!!!!

  34. Betty Moore says:

I would love to have the Ball Blue Book as I love to can and do gardening. Am always looking for new recipes to put on the shelves of my cellar.

  35. Kim in SD says:

Don’tcha just love it? Have you ever noticed: when it comes to kids having their pictures taken, they go from Hams, when they are younger, to being totally put off of being the focus of that camera? I have so many pictures of the kids in their “Aren’t I cute & adorable” poses. As teenagers, the camera usually caught what you did – the “Oh, brother, not the camera!” look.

  36. katherine says:

My daughter came first, and I admit, I loved those dance recitals…all those cute little girs and great costumes. Then came the son, soccer, baseball, and horror–swim team. LONG matches, hot smelly, steamy pool gym. Those were the worst! Although wrestling was a close second. The least those darn kids can do is let us take pics! Love the bangs hideout!

  37. carol bellamy says:

Merry Christmas to you and your family! The pictures are terrific. I love this site and check it everyday. Please enter me in the BBB.

  38. Chic says:

  39. Mandy says:

Morgan is growing into a beautiful young woman!
Thank you for the inspiration you give me everyday. I had a large garden this year for the first time, I canned a little for the first time this year, bought two Nigerian Drawf does and four chickens. I wouldn’t have done any of it without your inspiration.

Please enter me into the BBB drawing.

  40. Lisa says:

I would love to have this book to add to my collection. Merry Christsmas and I enjoy your blog, especially all of the handmade and homemade stuff! BBB

I dont think any self respecting burgalar would even consider going into your home–he would probably be photographed at leat 50 times before he could get very far! Thats a good thimg.
I would like to wish everyone MERRY CHRISYMAS, and hope you all have a safe and happy day.

I just wanted to tell you that today is my hubby’s birthday and it’s a long standing rule (50 odd years) that he gets to choose whatever he wants for his birthday supper. Guess what he chose?? Your Sour Cream Enchiladas!!!! I have made the a couple of times and this was his special choice for his special day. Thank you for being such a good and generous cook and making my darlin’ happy on his birthday!
Looks like I might get a somewhat white Christmas in Dallas, TX afterall. Predicting maybe 1-2 inches this afternoon. How cool would that be!
    Love and blessings to everyone.
    Merry Christmas!

  52. ElizaRed says:

..yes, Morgan will appreciate those pics of youth when she is older. Suzanne, have you ever thought of writing your description of what is happening on the basketball court…..this reminded me of the Andy Griffith skit “What It Was, Was Football” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P54JW64suZk&NR=1) which I can relate to more than whatever all those football positions are called and what all those hand signals mean!

  53. J says:

I love to take pictures too!! and want that book

  54. Janessa T. says:

I love it! My kids get to the point where they finally say “OK Mom, that’s enough with the camera!” The 3 year old girl is the only one that will still sit and holler “Cheese!!!” at the top of her lungs; however, I know that won’t last forever.

I’d love to win the BBB.

  55. Melanie says:

BBB, please. : ) And have a very Merry Christmas, Suzanne. Hope you have power by now!!

  59. Runningtrails says:

lol! I never know what’s going on either and I feel the same way about sports!

Very pretty girl you have there. Good thing she has two older brothers to look out for her and screen any bees buzzing around.

I despose hair in the face, too. Mine looks like that a lot of the time now that I am growing my bangs out. I sure will be glad when they get there! You can tell her that hairbands work great and look cool. They are making a “come back”.

I would love that Blue Ball Book. (I understand how that works now.)

So glad you are back and things are going smoothly down there without power!

  60. Houseful says:

Those photos made me laugh out loud. I try not to do that because I am homeschooling and if I laugh everyone stops what they are doing and wants to share in what is so funny. I think you take wonderful photos. I especially like how you take photos from very close-up (with the recipes and things like that).
    BBB,
    Sue

  61. Patty says:

I love the look she gave you. I have a lot of pics of my kids giving me that look. haha! And I’d love the BBB!!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

  62. Nancy in Iowa says:

Morgan has become a beautiful young woman! But judging by her reaction to your camera, I don’t believe she knows it, so you are doubly blessed!!! :fairy: :purpleflower:

  63. marymac says:

Oh,, you’re making beautiful memories with your daughter!!! All those pics will be cherished by both of you in the future. It’s so good to have you back on here, i so look forward to this blog everyday. I opened my first jar of your rustic apples the other day. I was craving some fruit and old mother Hubards fruit cupboard was bare , so I got a jar of the rustic apples, and let me tell you they were to die for. Morgan is gorgeous. Kids never understand why parents like to take pictures of them until they get older. They will understand it later on in life when they have their own kids.

I would love the BBB giveaway though.

  68. Melissa says:

    Oh yes, please! BBB

  69. BuckeyeGirl says:

Yeah, it’s a love hate thing. It’s good to have a mom that does that, but it’s not cool to act like it’s good, so you have to put up with her eye rolls and groans and hiding. I’ll bet some of her teammates secretly wish they had a photo-holic mom too!

I’d like to have a shot at the Christmas BBB please!

  70. ScreamingSardine says:

  77. Athena says:

Its probably not at the top of the list but when you look for a new camera make sure to buy one with a good sports mode. I have a Sony Cyber-Shot for less than $250; I love being able to set it on sports mode and take a picture while driving down the interstate (as a passenger) that looks like I was standing still!

    Love your blog!

It’s a long standing family joke – my older sister has tons of pictures of her lol. I made sure I took pictures of both my daughters lol. I love the two pics of the ghosts and no hands hahahahaha.

  91. Michele says:

Her bangs are a little long, she needs a good trim. She looks like a very good athlete. She should be very proud to be your daughter! I would like the BBB book also. :duck:

  92. Estella says:

    Great bunch of pics!
    Morgan is a lovely girl.

  93. psmflowerlady says:

My son played some sports and I was a nervous wreck. My daughter plays softball and I get “the look” as well. She also cheers for basketball and I find it incredibly weird to go to a game for the cheerleaders – I guess I’d rather watch the game. When I CHEER, I get more than the “look” – I get the finger slit across the throat – WHAT?! I thought that’s what they wanted us to do??? This mothering thing – can’t keep up! lOL. Happy Holidays – hope you get power back – but if not hope Rudolph is fully charged! Tammy – BBB

  94. maryann says:

lizajane I hope your family is safe by now. Merry Christmas to everyone. Suzanne I am not sure what kind of camera that you have but you might want to check to see what the shutter speed is. The mostly likely problem is that your camera is probably set to auto and it has adjusted itself to the low light inside the building. So you need to up the shutter speed. One way to tell is to take an action shot indoors and take one out doors during a bright day, using the same settings. If the outdoor one is fine that is the problem. I have an SLR that I am still trying to work out the problems as I get blurry action shots both outside and inside. I miss my old fashion 35 mm Pentax camera.

Yes indeed…”THE LOOK”. Most impressively done by teenage girls to their mamas! Ah, the memories, LOL! She’s a beautiful girl that you are so right to be proud of….and she’ll get over the photos (eventually). Very fun post, so glad you are able to amuse yourself at the games (I too am no sports buff).

LizaJane, my prayers go out to your daughter & son-in-law, as well as to your entire family as you await word.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ~ and to quote Tiny Tim: “God Bless Us ~ EVERYONE”.

As Morgan keeps up her grades and continues to be a great athlete…thru high school…she could be scholarship material and we always welcome those great gals at the University of Tennessee..to help us win another National Championship…and you would be coached by the greatest female basketball coach..Pat Summit…and of course I would go see you play….we love the Lady Vols….and would steal her away from W.V. if possible…LOL

  111. SuzieQ says:

Love the basketball photos. Reminds me of my MUCH younger days when I also played basketball. My dad was the one who came to watch me play and cheer me on. Mom stayed home (think she enoyed some time to herself). It’s now Christmas morning and I wish you a wonderful day. Would love the BBB.

  112. lizajane says:

Thank you all for your prayers. My daughter was able to get unstranded in quite an unusual way.It is our Christmas miracle! A red truck went my her, she put her truck in4-wheel drive and followed it. No one else followed them, no one else was following the truck and she just kept her eyes on that truck and was able to get to a hotel. It is as if the red truck was only seen by her and her husband!

  113. Laura says:

Honey, where is your knitting? Imagine all the scarves and shawls and Christmas presents you could be making at these sporting events! This is how I survive all boring times in my life and God help the person who takes away my survival mechinism (sp?).

    Happy Christmas!

  114. Judy@daily yarns says:

Oh my goodness…She could be one of mine.

  115. debbie says:

Suzanne, I believe I’ve found an area that I’m tougher than you in. Watching school sports! My kids both run cross-country. That involves standing outside in any weather (mostly cold autumn rain). No knitting because in order to catch a glimpse of them running though the woods, you have to run nearly as much as they do. And the only pictures we get of them is their backs running away at the start, the big finish at the end, and the obligatory sweaty picture after as they fall over off the the side so they don’t get trampled by the other runners.

But, I betcha, even with all our parental whining, we wouldn’t trade these memories for the world.

  116. debbie says:

P.S. How come Morgan objects to having her picture taken during the big game but not when she’s mugging it up with a mug of hot cocoa and a snowman in her jammies, no less?

Tell her she might as well get used to it because with her height and looks, she’ll probably end up being a model, or an olympic contender, either of which involve many, many more pictures than you
    could possibly imagine.

  117. YayaOrchid says:

Lovely post, Suzanne! Those were ALL great pictures, even the ghost ones.

I hope I can be entered in the BBB drawing. thank you!
