uh, oh. If you’ve got an egg-suckin’ dog, you may want to give some serious thought to breaking him/her of the habit.
Using a syringe, inject about 1/2 tsp of hot pepper/Tabasco sauce into the egg and leave it for the dog to find. Normally, they won’t touch an egg again. It won’t hurt them, just taste as hot as blazes!

omigosh….an egg eating dog is NOT GOOD. There are ways to break him but you have to do it right away. Do what that one commenter suggested about the tobacco sauce injection or else ask some of the old farmers in the area…they all have remedies to cure that. We once had a dog that was a chicken killer and once they taste it they are hooked. My uncle tied a dead chicken around the dogs neck and left it there for days. The dog never went near a chicken again. LOL

When I was young we had a beagle. The neighbor down the road and around the corner called us to say that our dog had killed one of his chickens. Within a week my dad had given the dog away to a co-worker of his who lived about 30 miles away. A few weeks after “Cleo” had left for his new home that same neighbor called and was yelling about OUR dog killing another of his chickens. As he ranted my dad looked out our picture window to see a beagle trotting down the road past our house. He told the neighbor that our dog was gone and that another beagle had just trotted by. Our dog was given away because of a case of mistaken identity.

What came first…The chicken or the egg…..
Looks like the egg….!
but soon will be the chicken….
Not funny when the chickens start disappearing or the eggs for that matter….
better nip it in the bud soon…
but still a funny look on the poor little hens face…

Oh No! An egg sucking dog is not good when someone does as much baking and cooking as you! The raceis on – who will get to the eggs first? You or the dog? :woof:

My dogs will eat eggs if they find them as well. I have to admit I’ve been known to toss them one, on occasion.
You’re poor hen looks like she’s getting picked on. Have you tried using a ‘hen saddle’ or something to protect her back? From what I’ve read, I think once the skin is exposed like that the other chickens may just peck her to death…

Suzanne McMinn says:
Nancy, they won’t peck her to death–at least not here! She’ll be fine. This happens to the hens here this time of year and it’s most of them, so they don’t bother each other about it!

OMG – I let out a bark of laughter at this! Then, as I read the comments, my face got red – senior moment here. I didn’t even think about egg eating dogs – I immediately pictured Meryl Streep’s face over the poor, bereaved hen!!!

Okay, practicality aside…you know chicken saddles would be AWESOME! DO IT! There are patterns to make your own! π π π You could even strap little action figures to the saddle. Or you can put numbers on them like they’re a football team…the possibilities are endless, and equally hilarious! PLEASE CONSIDER, SUZANNE!

Oh what a bad doggie! He looks just like my Bubba. And he has been known to get an egg or two every now and then. So do my other 2 old dogs. It’s funny when they do because they can’t crack them. Once they had a guinea egg for days. Those are hard as rocks. I just let them keep it.
I have a few hens that are the roos favorites. They need saddles. I was looking at some and there are some very creative ladies that make sthem. I bet Suzanne could come up with some cute ones.
