Poky the Calf

Beulah Petunia went into this really long, and odd, licking/grooming session with Poky this afternoon. I’m not sure if Poky liked it, or if she was just afraid to move in case it made the giant cow mad. Also not sure what BP was thinking, maybe that this was another, and rather weird, calf. (Poky is about the same size as Glory Bee.)

Awww, that is soo sweet. I’m sure Poky didn’t mind, all animals like to be touched (or they should!) BP is telling Poky,”It’s good to be friends even if they don’t look just like you, my baby is a sweetheart…you’ll see!”

  2. Rhea says:

Beulah Petunia’s just feeling motherly, I guess. Interesting.

I have two “strange” relationships like that. One is our german shepard cross and our cat. He licks and grooms the cat so much he usually has bald spots down his back. The other is for some reason our goose has grown attached to one of my nubians (a wether). He follows him everywhere and doesn’t leave his side very often. I think Cocoa would like him to go away once in awhile! Often wonder what goes through all of their minds!!

  4. Patricia says:

Poor Poky! If it’s not Jack bothering her, it’s BP! That’s pretty funny!

  5. Gem says:

She’s claiming Poky!!! What a sweety! (he probably just tastes good.) Does she hava a salt/mineral lick???

  6. CindyP says:

Awwww…. BP will love all these animals to take care of!

That rooster looks HUGE in the background!

  7. Gem says:

Yikes-talk about typos! I meant “she” for Poky and if BP has a salt/mineral lick 🙂

Hormones make a momma willing to adopt strays.

  9. Helen says:

    Everyone loves Poky

  10. Nancy in Iowa says:

That should help GB feel part of a bigger family!!! If she doesn’t get jealous of the attention BP pays Poky, that is!

  11. Barbee' says:

She probably just thought Poky was a mess and needed cleaning up.

  12. texwisgirl says:

I guess BP’s finding her herd where she can. And Poky probably enjoyed it. Since she was bellowing so much the other day, and now this companionship effort, she just might be in heat, like your readers thought…

  13. Enjay says:

Awww how sweet! Pokey sure was enjoying it, see how her lower lip is dangling? I would almost bet it was quivering too. That’s an equine way of saying right there, that’s the spot!

  14. patrice says:

Maybe Pokey needed some mothering. We had a Jersey cow who would adopt anything a few years ago.

  15. Bev says:

Maybe the poor cow has OCD….. :hissyfit:

  16. Whaledancer says:

Well, Poky and Glory Bee having been becoming friends. Maybe BP’s just welcoming Poky into the family. She’s probably thinking there are some very strange cows in this herd, but nice once you get to know them.

I agree that Beulah Petunia now feels at home on Stringfarm Rising and is bonding with the other animals. Equine or bovine…makes no never-mind to Beulah Petunia; she’s an equal opportunity groomer.

  18. Deni says:

BP is just spreading the love! :airkiss:

  19. margaret rusnak says:

wonder if your milk will taste like poky tomorrow.

  20. Darlene in North Ga says:

Maybe BP smelled Poky and decided she needed a BATH! BADLY! lol

Yeah, I wonder if the milk will taste like Poky too.

  21. Gem says:

Pokey’s having flashbacks! (That lip and those give it away!)

  22. Gem says:

EYES! (what is wrong with my fingers???)

  23. Ramona says:

    Funny…she’s just sharing the luv.
