Just showing off my latest homemade soap.
This is peppermint soap.
Not that there are any actual peppermints in it… But it’s made with peppermint essential oil for the fragrance.
I made this soap with the cold process method, but it’s the same basic recipe that you can find here in my hot process tutorial.
To make the swirls, I separated out a small amount of the soap and added red soap coloring, then layered that in as I was pouring out the rest of the soap and used a knife to swirl it through the soap. I’ve got it sitting out now to cure. I think it turned out really pretty!
Cold process takes a little more patience than hot process soap, and here lately I’ve been working on my patience.

Beautiful! Do you use an immersion blender when you make cold process soap? The mixture gets to “trace” much faster.

Yes, I always use a stick blender for soap, whether it’s cold or hot process.

This looks intriguing. We may need to experiment to accomplish what you have made so inviting!
Don & I purchased items to make soap after our event we attended recently. Of course, it’s never the same as being on the farm. We learn from our mistakes!! We did two batches. I’m going to try one of our bars tonight.
I will ask this question though. Is there anything wrong in scraping the sides of the crock pot and forming the leftovers into a ball to use?

Suzanne McMinn says:
The bits on the sides of the crock pot are hard, that’s why I never scrape down the sides of the crock pot when making hot process soap. But, if you want to scrape them separately and make them into balls, no, there’s nothing wrong with that. (It’s your soap, so you can do anything you want, actually!)
