Blackberries!

Jul
24

Love this time of year, when the blackberries are ripening behind the barns and I can go get scratched up all over and sucked down by ticks–all in search of a bucket of fresh berries. Have no idea why this is so alluring, and yet it is.

After soaking and cleaning, I ended up with enough for a small cobbler. Look at all the fun veggies that are fresh now–new potatoes, squash, zucchini, peppers, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers…..

How’s your garden doing? (The squash, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers are from the garden, the corn and potatoes are from the farmers market.)

My favorite cobbler recipe is SO easy–one cup of flour, one cup of sugar, a pinch of salt, mixed with one egg then just thrown on top of the fruit. Cut a stick of butter on top and bake for about 30 minutes at 350.

Does that look good or what? Vanilla ice cream on top = perfection!!

The cobbler looks yummy! :hungry: There is just something about fresh berries that make desserts that much better.

OMG, that cobbler looks SO good! YUM. :hungry:

I wish we had veggies and berries avaiable on the property – your pictures make the fresh food look heavenly. I’ll have to invade MIL’s garden.

YUM Suzanne. That looks so good!
I do almost the same cobbler recipe only mine’s not as good for you. I start with a melted stick of butter, pour the fruit in and top with the cobbler mix only instead of 1 egg, I use 1/2 cup of milk. I think I’ll try yours today!

Blackberry cobbler, Yummy!!!!! Be sure to enjoy a piece for me. :hungry: Suzanne, thanks so much for the goody bag, can’t wait to enjoy it. :cattail:  I will have to make #4 one of my lucky numbers now. Congrats to all the other winners from Friday. :bananadance:
Hope everyone is having a fantastic day. Hey Suzanne, do you or anyone else on here get and read the Romantic Times Book Review magazine, and is it good? I want to subscribe but wanted to make sure I would get much enjoyment out of it first before I do. :purr: :sheepjump:

Mm-MMM that pie looks good! I love picking blackberries and eating them when they’re hot from the sun. Delish!

I’m salivating over that cobbler; rather like the response of one of Pavlov’s dogs. LOL.

Yummy; I’ll have to try it. I make a fruit crisp, but it uses oatmeal in the topping, along with brown sugar, flour, salt, vanilla, and butter.

Both recipes sound really good and easy enough for even me to do. I usually add less butter but it should come out. What a stupid time of year to be put on a restricted diet – I’m absolutely going crazy because I’m not allowed fresh fruit and vegetables 😥 and I planted green onions that would probably kill me

  12. Brandy says:

Oh, good grief! That cobbler looks fabulous. I was just thinking of making a blueberry one!
Guess what?! My first (and only) tomatoe plant has a red tomatoe on it! YAY!

LeAnn, As for Romantic Times Magazine, I buy mine from the bookstore, but it’s a great publication. It has reviews for ALL genres, not just romance. it’s also online and has a whole “board” of topics. Hope that answers your questions.

Garden’s really starting to pick up now. We’ve got green peppers the size of your fist. Lots of lettuce and radishes. Strawberries are finally flowering again. Pumpkins growing and the potatoes that mysteriously appeared are probably ready to pull soon
